Here are some photos of a very dense hail downpour over Southampton water this afternoon (see Lightning Hunters post for some amazing close ups) and also some anvils towards the Isle of Wight.

A super set of photos. I really enjoyed the convective clouds and precipitation shafts. We haven't got convection yet in this part of Canada. We are covered in snow and ice and under clear skies the temperatures plummet at night down to -15C or so and it doesn't warm up much during the day.

Excellent set of photographs! Looked a very nice afternoon to be out with all those anvils. Very photogenic rain/hail shafts - always remind me of early Spring.

Great shots Steve. I was down there on holiday and I was the Solent at exactly the same time as you and I got plenty of pics of the Convection too!

Some good skies around yesterday, but they didn't last long did they. I wish I'd managed to get to the coast yesterday but the traffic was too heavy to bother, I would have missed them.

Good quality set of photos there. Like the use of the beach to lead your eye towards the cloud in the top few.

Oh dear! I should have headed south instead of north yesterday. Wonderful pics. I especially like the 4th and 10th pics.
