Location: Machynlleth, Mid Wales | Think I've figured one reason for the lack of monster storms in July. Piers forecasted them See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLwCY2FZwho&feature=player_embedded Cheers - John |

Location: New Milton, Hampshire (55m) | I've not had a summer with no audible thunder since I started recording in 1995. Looks like 2010 might have a chance of being the first, though August averages 1.4 days rather than the 0.9 days of July here.

Location: Southeast Essex | It is true.....there has been no real heat. The odd day which topped 30C for a few hours in a few locations did produce thunderstorms. Your warm figures reflect warm nights and warm days. Not real heat. It just hasnt been hot enough or widespread enough. |

Clearly, presenting his forecasts isn't his strong point; along with most of what he says. The weather is going to be variable - ummm. Just like night becomes dark and day becomes light I suppose. I felt quite unconfortable watching him massaging his map in a rather affectionate way!!! |

Surely though Vill, heat is not the only contributor to a thunderstorm. Maybe the homegrown varieties; but not imports combined with warm SST's to cary them across the channel?

Funny we get much of our thunder in Autumn and Winter with temps around 10-15°C |
