Offshoot from another thread so it isn't derailed. Well after the annual average fell up to 1980, it certainly looks that way in the last 30 years, from the Scottish Precipitation series:

Period

Average

1931 - 19601367.8
1941 - 19701346.5
1951 - 19801306.2
1961 - 19901354.8
1971 - 20001379.8
( 2000 - 2009 )1406.2

Is there a source for historic sunshine annual totals?

If you can produce similar figures in SE England, and these show a decline, you start to look like giving some proof to the climate forecasts which suggest that we will see such a thing happening.

Figures for SE England from Hadobs SEEPS, nothing much other than a natural looking variance, which does slightly reinforce the notion that Scotland is on an upward trend.

This is rather interesting, looking at summer only ( JJA) :

1931 - 1960322.0
1941 - 1970320.5
1951 - 1980299.4
1961 - 1990290.3
1971 - 2000278.8
(1981 - 2009)301.8
2000 - 2009327.2

Very clearly, from the 30 year moving averages, a drying trend up to around 1980, then becoming wetter in the 80s with a drier decade in the 90s but a notable increase in summer rainfall since 2000.
