As we're finding out what AWS hardware you have, it would be interesting to see what software you use too.  I've allowed multiple choice voting to cater for those that use more than 1 peice of software and also the ability to add options, as I'll know doubt forget some! ;)  Feel free to write a review on your software below...

Remember, if you upload your weather station data to the web, there are lots of places keen to use your data, like http://www.ukweatherworld.co.uk/aws/, http://www.weatherstations.co.uk/aws_map.htm and http://www.awekas.at/en/index.php.  The more data we all share, the better observational coverage we'll all have access to. :)

Hi Sam,

I use DA to make sfc/upperair maps from the observations and to make hand analysis. RAOB for the soundings, WXOB for meteograms, Google Earth for the radar data, WXSN 2006 for the soundings, MeteOS/MM5/RIP for numerical modeling over my area. I guess this is enough, don't want to mention about the three dozens other UNIX/Windows wx tools, which I have been used;)

I have been using Weather Display for over 2 years.
I have been very impressed with this software. It has a steep learning curve and may seem daunting at first, but after some time you get used to the many different functions available. And there is a forum of other users who will help out if you get stuck.
Brian, the program's author provides top notch support for new features/upgrades/bug fixes. Sometimes a couple of different versions of the program are published per day!
Due to the complex nature of the program which supports a vast array of weather stations, there are always small bugs that get introduced into the program - something may break that worked fine before, but Brian is quick to put these right. People find they are downloading the latest version quite often because of this.
I have been using an older version for some time now as I am happy with what the program does apart from one or two small niggles, and it runs nice and stable on my computer.

Adding those is great Angel. I was only considering weather station software initially, but interesting to see what other weather software people use too. I must have a go and overlaying radar/sferics etc on to Google Earth. Do you need an upgraded version for that?

just Echoing Bristols points about the software. I would consider myself a quick learner, and even to me at first i thought theres know way im going to be able to work this. But i just played about with it exploreing the features and settings, and after about 3 days i had my (first basic) website up and running, still learning now but the software in my opinion is excellent, with more features tha you could throw a stick at.;)

My main software is the skyview systems "Skymet Standard edition". With this software I can use my Skyview datapak data-logger which allows me to record data every 10 minutes or longer intervals if required. I also use the VWS software which has a lot more features but I cannot use the data-logger with this software which is a pity.

My WS is not automatic and there is not much software produced that is specifically for manual recording. I therefore use a spreadsheet. This has the added advantage that, if the need or desire arises, I can modify it.

In addition -(I'll post this in the general forum as well)
There are now a number of options to run the WRF model on decent home/office PC with broadband-
As a virtual machine on a Windows host-
http://www.stormlab.net/wrf/wrf.html

Precompiled for Linux, with diagnostics for gliding forecasts-
http://www.drjack.in...ramRequirements
http://weather.scorer.homelinux.org/

and precompiled for Linux-
http://strc.comet.ucar.edu/

A number of questions-
I wonder how many people are using this in the UK and what their hardware/experience is ?

Has anybody in the UK managed to get a DVD off SOO/STRC ?

Would it be worth setting up a group/forum for UK WRF (and MM5) users?

Has any body managed to get the WRF running in a desktop UNIX enviroment, eg PC/FREE BSD ?

regards,
David

The only weather software I currently use is Climate Calculator

http://www.mm-system...2641cc6907037c6

Which I use for wet and dry bulb hygrometer calculations, aside from humidity it also calculates a host of other parameters from your readings. A very useful little program...

Other than that I use a piece of Java script I wrote myself for calculating the corrections for my Kew Pattern barometer - far easier than using tables!

Is there an English software/freeware to create our own weather maps ? A temperature figure for some cities of our choice, a weather symbol of our choice for those cities that we want to appear on the map, etc.

UK map, Ireland map, USA map, Europe map, (France map maybe) : all these maps would be nice to have.

It would be interesting to have such a software, to create real maps or maps that would even be fake, only to entertain oneself.

Thanks.

Cumulus suits my needs for now, although the developer has ruled out a newer version that was due for release.

It's free and can upload data to your weather website if you have one. Web Weather
