Arctic 'summer' is here - North Pole web cam deployed

NOAA have just deployed their web cam at the north pole. Have been doing this since 2002.

Well, being the middle of June and the cameras being covered in snow/frost.. I'd say this year is doing alright! :)

Unless the ice has already melted and that's actually the view from the bottom of the Arctic ocean [hehe]

I found this to be quite interesting.

The onset of the melt has been later than average in 2002, 2003, 2004, and now again in 2006. While things are melting around the edges, the pole itself doesn't seem to be quite so warm.

Not sure about the camera location....just saw an image from yesterday where it was surrounded by rocks.
