Some lightning terminology:

CC - Cloud to cloud

CG - Cloud to ground

CA - Cloud to air

Staccato - single, powerful bolt that is of very short duration, often associated with powerful LP Supercells.

Crawlers - lightning that appears to crawl under and within a storm's anvil or base.

I am not sure if this will help with some of the terminology but I use this site to help my students with our weather unit. The site is very informative and easy to read. If this has been posted before, I apologize. I am new to UKweatherworld. Hope this helps!

I have updated the main post with some more information so do take some time to check it out (on page 1). Our first chase team are most likely going to be under a moderate risk later on today so they will certainly be sending back some reports about severe weather later.

This is a great guide. Thanks for posting.

Don't forget the honorary vocab such as ominous and foreboding. :P

This "rear flank downdraft" thingy is something I experience on the toilet. Didn't know it meant something else.
