I think I'm finally going to make it to Svalbard next July (2007)! Yes, I know this is a year away, but I'm consumed with excitement and also want to know what to expect.  Anyone know what the weather conditions are like in Svalbard, in July? Or June for that matter. Summer.

am seriously envious of your trip - I've been round much of mainland Norway but never to Svalbard. Not certain about the mossies but inland Lapland and Finland can have serious hordes - they even rival those in Scotland !

Thanks a million for those links. July seems like a good time to go (because I don't do heat and the long-suffering person who has agreed to come with me doesn't do Very Cold). I am very VERY excited indeed. Very. I have been to Iceland and Norway (briefly), however I have a list of dream destinations including
Svalbard (next year! If all goes well)
Greenland (someday)
Faroes (someday)
Iceland again (next year if Svalbard doesn't work out)
Orkneys and Shetlands
Hebrides again (was last there when I was 16. In a tent.)
Islands in the North Atlantic, basically.

Neaver mind Svalbard in July if you wont some warm weather why not take a trip to Omyakon, 22c forcast for tomorrow, thats about 80c warmer than it is in winter.
