A good read Si. I was looking at the El Nino story in particular. In Dec 1997 a very strong El Nino started with eastern Pacific temps. at 27-31 C.and the following tornado season was the worst experienced.By mid April 102 people had been killed.The annual average is 42. But as is often the case, an El Nino is followed by a La Nina. That's what happened. In winter Dec/Feb 1998 there was a strong La Nina event with temps. of 21-23C. This was followed by the worst ever outbreak of tornadoes through OK. on May 3rd. 1999.when 44 of the 77 counties were on tornado watch. At least 1 cat. 5 with winds >300mph came very close to the OK city central areas.The 1998 season was put down to the strong 97/98 El Nino.Could it be that the following 98/99 strong La Nina was instrumental in that May 3rd. outbreak ?
