Once you have started a post (either in a new thread or an existing one) you then have two ways in which to display your photographs:

1. File attachment

2. Link to a host

Firstly lets deal with 1. File attachment: (up to 800pixels wide/tall, and under 300kb)


1. You need to resize your photo to a maximum of 800 pixels wide/tall and save to your desktop so that the file is no larger than 250Kb. There is plenty of free resizing software available on the web to help you do this.( e.g. irfanview ). Or if you have Windows 7 you can do the following:

Open your Pictures folder, right click the photo you wish to resize. From the menu, select "Send to..." "Mail Recipient". Then W7 will open a small window. Here you can choose picture size and so choose to resize attachments to 640 x 480, or 800 x 600 this usually works out at under 300kb. A blank email is then created with the resized picture attached. This attachment can be opened and saved to anywhere on your PC.

2. When composing a post onto UKww choose the Rich Text Editor (RTE) option. When you have written any text you must tick the "attach a file after posting" option at the bottom of the RTE. Click on "submit".

3. A small window will appear. Click "browse" and then choose the resized photo file from your desktop. Click "open" then "submit". A message will appear in red telling you if submission was successful. Repeat this process described in point 3 if you are attaching more than one photo.

4. When all photos are uploaded there is an option to change the order they will appear in your post by using up and down arrows next to the filenames.

5. When satisfied click "return to thread" to view your post.

Posting photos as attachments on UKww is an excellent way of sharing your photography with others but it shouldn't be considered to be a permanent way to store photos. Therefore linking to a host is an ideal and recommended way to manage your photos for others to see on UKww.

So here's how to: 2. Link to a host (up to 800 pixels wide/tall and under 300Kb)

1. Again compose your post using the RTE

2. Click on the "insert/edit image" icon and a small window will appear. Insert the URL of your photo from the host. This will then appear in the body of the post. You can add text between each link to describe your photos this way if posting more than one.

3. Click "submit" when you've finished composing your post.

How To Post a Photo From a Host


Photos posted must not exceed forum limits which are

up to 800 pixels wide/tall and under 300Kb


You should be able to do this in your photo editor


(I use Flickr http://www.flickr.com/ a free version and
if you set the options to load a photo to a max size of 800
pixels you can
easily load a full sized picture and not have to edit)


To get the photo to load the correct link must be used


the most common problem is trying to insert the wrong code


The code should start Http and end .jpg


First off go to your Ukww control panel and activate the rich text
editor




Then start post as follows



If adding to a running thread hit Reply if starting your own post
hit New.


(Using this option allows the use of rich text editing)


Then when rich editing is open click on the tree icon shown below


Which will open the following box



Insert image url as shown below you only need to fill in the box
shown



Make sure you flashing cursor is on a new line then hit insert to
place your photo. With this option you can write between
photo's as long as the flashing cursor is on a new line for each
picture you add, you should now have the picture shown and
only have to submit it to get it to the forum.

Photography deemed not to be weather will be removed by Mods. This includes landscapes, wildlife and photographs whose main subject is not weather.

Please note this forum can now accept photos larger than the previous 150Kb limit, as some of you may have noticed.
We do however politely ask you keep them below 300kb wherever possible, and preferably no wider than 800pixels.
