As an absolute amateur, with no weather skills at all, I struggle to cope with the technical side of this forum. However, I find it intensely interesting and can only apologise for being a lurker whilst I attempt to master the subject. Please forgive my lack of contribution, but be assured that I am a regular 'reader' and greatly appreciate the info which is so readily available.

Yes I was keen on this .. but not many contributed I recall.

Also we had a maritime weather forum with the same issues at one stage..

Hi Peter, thanks for your comment, & welcome to UKww. We try to make the side good for anybody with an interest in the weather. And its very understandable the site seems challenging in the layout, but it works once use to it, think of it like a book with chapters and verses ( forums & sub-forums)........ Please though, if you are ever unsure of which forum to raise a topic in, raise it in any, you will soon get familiar.... its you the members that make the site.
:) .

Is there any way in which the forum software could be tweaked to automatically parse URLs? It always seems a bit of a hassle typing in http://www.. and having to manually make it into a clickable link.

Edit : Ah, it did it for that one but not for any of the other ones I post. What am I doing wrong? [dunno]

Parts of the board seem a bit "odd" in that depending on whether the post was made with the "quick reply", rich text, or "basic" editor affects many things. Even worse when quoting a post made with a different "editor". I now use the basic editor and the BBcode plugin for firefox, which makes most things simpler but I can't resize images that way yet.

I think we should bring back 'Villages View' or even have 'Convective North's View'!

It works if you use the quick reply box, but not if you use the full reply (as when you quote a previous post).  Dunno why.

Speed - I can't find the post but a while back there was a poll about the site speed, at that point I thought it was ok (ish), now it sucks.  The speed seems to have gone down really badly for some reason.  just thought I'd mention it.

Hey All,

Just a quick question, I had originally intended to create a general survey poll regarding Climate Chat to gauge everyones opinion. I had left the option open for others to add their own and had intended to resubmit the survey with everyone having a chance to vote for all options. As the response rate has been so low there is not a statistically significant reason to continue with the experiment. (We need a minimum of 30 responses and would be more comfortable with 300.) So if no one else has any complaints I will terminate going further with this effort.

Cheers!

It would be nice to see UKWW once in a while do some competitions. I have hinted in the past at themed photography competitions. This way it gives everyone a fair chance of putting a good entry in. After all, someone who lives in the middle of a town may not have a spectacular countryside near them from which they can take a great photograph. I just feel it would even the playing field up a bit outside of the regular monthly contributors.

Furthermore, membership of FROUKS is promoted quite a lot on UKWW. Given that it only takes the click of a button to give people access and doesn't actually cost anything perhaps in some of these competitions membership to FROUKS could be offered? You might find that more people get involved in the site rather than just viewing from a distance. I know membership of FROUKS helps to support running the site, but there are also many more commercial sponsors than there used to be. The odd membership here or there wouldn't make any difference as those that normally join would not be put off by a competition winner gaining access. A free prize that benefits everyone.

I'd like to see members that had some knowledge behind thier ideas of what cheap (<£100) AWS could actually achieve, (inappropriate text removed - Moderator)

There is no ongoing suggestions thread and I can't create a new one so...

With regard to the disquiet caused by flood posting to the daily Current & Recent Conditions in some cases nearly two weeks old, could I suggest that each day's thread is locked by a moderator after say a couple of days after. This would still give a member the chance to post obs for midnight - midnight the next day and remain on topic.

In special cases where someone can't post very interesting obs for a few days due to power loss etc, if an extreme event then there will usually be a relevant "watch" thread or they can respond to existing threads or open a new thread in the general weather chat.

Or as Ed suggests a single thread

tbh all that is required is a thread in weather from the past maybe? solely aimed for this purpose, updated as and when up until the last report?

There's this thread:

http://www.ukweather...ns-or-feedback/

Personally I think there is no need for another thread as you may still have the same problem which is the fact that the individual is flooding which is the issue and the cause of the complaints. I would go along with the above outlined and just lock the thread after 2-3 days.

This issue has been raised before....and no action seems to have been taken. Its about time it was. Its the same person flood posting the thread..has that person been PM's by a moderator saying thanks, but we don't really need 2 week old reports that have no real interest unless there was an extreme to report on.

Nothing was done before because more members didn't mind than objected.

However, lets do this via a poll and the results will speak for themselves.

I'll set one up.
