So 2008 is now a joint equal with 1919 for the lowest temperature on 26th March (-11.1 deg. C.).

Some low minima's in the first few days of March, but given GFS (a global model!) is forecasting a -16ºC gridpoint temperature for Tulloch Bridge for the night of the 4th/5th, and the fact there's plenty of snowfall going on in the region, there's a chances somewhere in the highlands could get near the -21.1ºC figure if the winds do drop out as forecast.

I'd be pretty surprised to see it getting near -20C!

The 25C on 29th March '68 was followed by heavy snowfall on the Monday.

http://www.metoffice...minimum_england indicates that 25.6 deg. C. was recorded on 29th March 1968 at Mepal in Cambridgeshire. Since this appears on the Met office website, it would appear that the Met Office regard the record as genuine. If generally accepted, then this is the highest ever in Britain for March, as well as a new date record for 29th March. I never heard of this record until this morning.
