That picture really brings home just how devastating the tornado was....didn't the grain elevator remain standing?

From what I tell Paul took that photo from just beyond the left edge of Dave's image. Everything apart from the elevator is gone.

I'm reading on S2K they have found a maximum track width of 2.75km in the site investigation! No idea where I would find the original statement though.

Courtesy of the Dodge City National Weather Service Office.

The First "5" Rating on the new Enhanced-Fujita Scale
...and the first "5" classification since May 3, 1999 when an F5 tornado ripped through Moore, Oklahoma.

This page will be updated with detailed information on path lengths, widths, and locations as the detailed surveys are completed.  A number of images will also be included in this story from ground surveys and of the tornado itself.  Significant tornadoes tracked over the same areas on May 5th and distinguishing tracks from May 4th and May 5th will be difficult...along with the fact that extensive areal flooding has been occurring in the area of some of the tornado tracks.  Below is an image from the Dodge City doppler radar velocity data showing the incredible rotational "tornado vortex signature" shortly before changing the town of Greensburg, Kansas forever:

You can also watch the good morning America interview done with Mike Umscheid, the NWS forecaster who was on warnings that night from DDC
http://abcnews.go.co...=3146565&page=1 When you have clicked on the link look to the right hand side and it should have a picture of Mike with a title 'Tornadoes Hero: A Meteorologist'
He also wrote something in his blog that very same night which makes for an interesting read

US chaser Mike Scantlin has some of the best images of the Greensburg tornado I have seen. Storm structure is even visible. You can only view these pictures if you are a member of stormtrack.

Heard that Rich Thompson who we meet as cheif forcaster that day in the weather lab in Norman OK had spent the whole day in Greenburg before heading north to the storms we were on to hear later that Greenburg was destroyed.. shows how hard it is to pin point where the action is going to be..

Maybe it was a good thing for Rich?

Still getting over the pics and devastation caused, unbelievable. Take care all chasing at the moment and those preparing to go out. Keep the reports and photo's coming as us at home are waiting for daily news and updates.

Great work from the moderator too !-)

There are a couple of chasers who got into a dicey situation with the Greensbury storm and are getting ready to publish their footage after much debate about whether they should. Again, you will need to be a member of stormtrack to access the link but they have already posted up some Baron's screen grabs
http://www.stormtrac...?t=12366&page=4
They are likely to release video footage as well.
