Dave Hancox - 4/7/2007 13:30 Hi Gary What type of camera do you have ?

It's a Kodak z612, Lower end zoom camera as I was on a budget. It's been great so far with Auto indoor and closer range shots, But seems to need a bit of manual input though when it has less than perfect light conditions outside.

I've just has a fiddle with aperture and shutter speed settings, and got some decent results. Just a shame the conditions for taking pictures have been so bad lately.

I had the Kodak Z740 camera found it excellent. I'm no expert but you can adjust exposure on that cam with the + or - feature and see if that works. Also check and see what exposure metering is set to. That camera has the following options, Exposure metering—multi-pattern, center-weighted, center spot (zone tracks with 5 focus zone) try multi pattern see if that helps. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than my self will help.

I have 2 Kodak cameras.P880 and DX7590.I always use the manual setting and the exposure level of -0.07 to -1.0.
This gained by adjusting your shutter speed.
Then in photo-editing I use auto levels and adjust gamma to get the desired photo I need.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going on holiday soon and want to come back with some quality shots to show off! :p I have adjusted one of the photographs in Irfanview and it improved the picture a lot. I always feel like I'm cheating when I do that though! :D

I must add that the shutter speed depends on the lighting conditions.Always use manual mode though. The auto is no good for landscape shots. My pictures improved a lot when I also bought a circular polarizer filter. Its brings out the clouds a lot better.

Hi all,

I hope this is the right thread for this question.
I have a lightning strike captured from video which spans 3 frames and I now have it as 3 jpegs, is it possible to overlay all 3 to create 1 jpeg ? The clouds and background are identical in each pic but the strike has different arms and legs in each.

I have photoshop cs1 (never learnt to use it properly) and am struggling to see if this is possible.

Thanks

Sorry aquifer I'm not sure how you would do that! But I was wondering about Aperture and Shutter speed. When taking a picture and the light is too bright, what is best to change. The shutter speed or the aperture? Because don't the do pretty much the same thing but in different ways? :)

Memory card I have been using a Kingdisk 2gb SD memory card tonight it kept reporting unformatted i reformatted it and it looked like it was working playing back pics on cam but when plugged into PC most of the pics were missing. It was reformatted again but same problem persists. cleaned connectors as well to no avail. Some times cam was reporting no image others raw image cannot be displayed when none had been taken. I take it the card is goosed not that i could trust it anymore.

Is any form of maintenance  required for SD cards

What make of SD card do other use.

Cheers

Mick, I'm sure there is a better way of doing it but...

If I was trying to do it I would be using Paintshop Pro and the first step would be to convert the files to GIF format so I could cut and past one image into another as a transparent GIF. This would allow overlaying two transparent GIFs on the original.

I think I should invest in a guide to PSP - there must be an easier way!

HTH.

I use the very cheapest Dave! ....... Kingston ......... 50,000 pics a card and no probs yet. I also take mine out the camera several times a day without too much regard & bung them in the card reader...so they get used.

Am I reading this right, and is it a good camera for the price

Olympus E400 DSLR £299

I've also seen the Pentax K100D for £249 and the Olympus E500 for £269.

What would you get recommend for a sub £300 DSLR?

Heres a useful read up on the Olympus and also a comparison between it and the Pentax.

A sub £300 DSLR is not going to be the latest model available, but I would tend to say thats not necessarily a huge issue, as even a obsolete DSLR will have all the manual features you need, and will still take very good quality photos. The Olympus looks good, never actually handled one, but led to believe they're pretty good.

All the Canon EOS series of DSLR's are good, the oldest being the 300D and the latest the 400D. The big differences between them are the older ones are larger and have a lower mega pixel rating, though even the 300D is still 6mp, which is enough for most uses!

Nikon again are a good brand, and I have no experience of Pentax, but lead to beleive they're pretty good. The big thing is to be happy with this one, if its your 1st SLR, as if you want to grow a collection of lenses you'll need to stay with the same brand.

And lenses brings me onto the last thing, which is check whether a sub £300 DSLR is bundled with a lense or if it's body only - you might have to budget for buying a lense as well, which will be at least £100 for an even vaguely decent one...! The link you've posted makes no mention of an included lense that I can see, so definitely check that one!

I run a Canon 300D, and have been very happy with it, so I'm a little Canon biased, but that or the 350D if you can find one would be my recommendation.
