The quiz is back, different but hopefully familiar, a bit like a meteorological Dr Who... Some differences to Andy's but hopefully some continuity as well. Maybe some changes as we go alone - we'll see ;)

OK:

  • Q1 What will be the mean temperature for the month? 50 pts if with .1C, 30 pts if with .5C 20 pts if within 1C, 10 pts if within 2C
  • Q2 What will be the sunshine anomaly for the month? 50 pts if within 5%, 20 pts for within 20%, 10 pts for within 40%
  • Q3 What will be the rainfall anomaly for the month? 50 pts if with 5%, 20 pts for within 20% 10 pts for within 40%

I'll be taking the data from www.climate-uk.com for these figures. But, watch out, I might change to the Hadley figures for other months 666

Bonus questions:

  • 1, What will be the highest temperature recorded this month in the UK? 50 pts if within .2C, 20 pts if within 1C, 10 pts if within 2C
  • 2, What will be the lowest temperature recorded this month in the UK? 50 pts if within .2C, 20 pts if within 1C, 10 pts if within 2C
  • 4, What will be the lowest pressure recorded in the N Atlantic/Europe region this month? 50 pts if within 5mb, 20 pts if within 10 mb 10 pts if within 20 mb

Answer for these question will be based on whatever data I can find, here or elsewhere - official stations only.

  • And a 'bonus bonus' of 25 pts will be awarded for getting any two questions spot on.

All welcome to give it a try, the more the better really :) I guess entries should be in by the end of the month, but it's Christmas, it's late so just this time say by January 1st [y]

Now, back to the sprouts [hehe]  as if...

Peter,

For clarification.  For the following, you require the answer in 'hours'  and 'millimetres' ?

  • Q2 What will be the sunshine anomaly for the month? 50 pts if within 5%, 20 pts for within 20%, 10 pts for within 40%
  • Q3 What will be the rainfall anomaly for the month? 50 pts if with 5%, 20 pts for within 20% 10 pts for within 40%
:)

I assume it means percentage - ie rainfall 120%, sunshine 92% of average?

Sorry, been away.

Erm, yup, CET and I was thinking percentage anomaly, because it's easier to work out the points that way :% . These values will all be on climate-uk.com as the month progresses.

EDIT! so that's England and Wales rainfall and sunshine....

Q3 - +7%

Bonus

Yes, I don't see why not. I'll leave it flexible, say by Sunday? Oh, and if anyone want to update their entries so far it's only fair you should be able to, me included [hehe] or, that we get a bonus for being on time 666 . I'll think about it...

Just to clarify I've answerd Q2 and 3 as percentage of total not percentage anomaly as others have put. I suppose it amounts to the same thing but I don't want you thinking I answered +100% rainfall when I just meant it would be 100% of average. :)

Looking on netweather the BBC also seemed to forecast a wet and windy december also so im going to stick my head out and go against the latest BBC month ahead forecast and say it will be more of a continuation of decembers weather, average temperatures, somewhat above average sunshine, although i do think it will be wetter than december. I guess it all depends on the orientation of the nearest high though.

1)Temperature; 4.2c
2)Sunshine; 110%
3)Rainfal; 135%

Bonus

1) 14.3c
2) -14.3c
3) +.30?!
4) 946
