Ukww is carrying out a survey of thunderstorms in the British Isles during 2008, if you see or hear an electrically active convective storm please post your observations here. Try and be subjective in your report, it is very easy to exaggerate on discharge rates and proximity. This thread is for reporting only, please use the relevant thread for any discussion. Just copy and paste the form and enter your own observations. Lets see how many pages we can fill up !! Thanks for your help.

10. There was also a direct hit on a substation/transformer in Lisburn earlier today. 5000 homes without electricity.

Forgot to enter this one, put my observation location, but storm/s were out over the English Channel (UK waters though lol).

Storms were over the Lyme Bay Area of the English Channel heading east towards Portland and Dorset.

Activity appeared to come from closest precipitation on radar in same direction flashes seen - over Cardigan Bay, heading towards Barmouth/Dolgellau area

Any other observations, Blue lightning 1st CC strike almost overhead during very heavy shower of soft hail or sleet with gusty wind causing small twigs and leaves to be removed from trees. Noise heard from 1st strike, 2nd and third strikes in distance to NE no sound heard from within moving vehicle.

Any other unusual observations, i.e.Ball lightning, colour etc :  Accompanied by heavy fall of small hail (5mm) and strong, gusty wind.

2. ~17:20 21st March 2008 (first CG) all times +/- 10min

3. ~17:30

4. 0.3/min (4 seen in total)

5. 4 visible + 1 SFERIC heard (not visible from observing position)

6. From the North ~0º heading South 160-180º

7. 900m-1000m

8. Probably 1 cell

9. It seemed very clear that the CG was at the front (direction of travel) whilst the CC occurred more t'ward rear of system. (probably not unusual aside from being such a clear example)
