Same as last month

You need to select two locations in the UK & Ireland which you think will score highest for that month in each category.  Points will be awarded as follows:

Top location - 5pts

2nd top - 3pts

within top 10 - 1pt

In addition there will be bonus questions with scoring explained in each case

I will be using a combination of data from the Bournemouth Echo and the MetO to score - with MetO data over-riding that given by the Echo should these disagree regarding UK locations (only the Echo includes Irish stations).  Should such data not be available I will use Ogimet and/or Met Eirean as applicable.

The data is published each day in the 'UK & Ireland Daily Extremes ' forum - and it'd probably worth while having a flick through previous years to get an idea of which locations feature most often.

Most, but not all, locations also feature in the weatheronline data which I've used in previous years.

Note that only locations listed in each days summary as published on UKww will count!  If Gravesend is the warmest place in the country and for some reason it doesn't appear, then tough!

As I'm away this weekend, you have until midnight 2nd February to get your entries in.  An you may also amend your entries up until then should you wish to cheat

So, for Feb 2008, please select 2 locations for each of the following:

1) Warmest in Uk & Ireland

2) Coldest in UK & Ireland

3) Wettest in UK & Ireland

Bonus:

1) What will be the highest temp recorded in the UK & Ireland in February 2009?  10pts if within 0.5c; 5pts if with 1c; 1pt if within 2c

2) What will be the lowest temp recorded in the UK & Ireland in February 2009? 10pts if within 0.5c; 5pts if with 1c; 1pt if within 2c

3) How many times will the Met Office report an 'ice day' (max temp below 0.0c) somewhere in the UK during February 2009?  10pts if correct; 5pts if with 1 day; 1pt if within 2 days

4) How many days will Altnaharra record the coldest temperature in the UK? 10pts if correct; 5pts if with 1 day; 1pt if withinin 2 days

And this months results - in a month where I think most of us would ahve scored better had we swapped our coldest and wettest selections over!!!

The Bonus answers were:

1) 15.4c
2) -18.4c
3) 10 ice days (1st to 10th inc)
4) 1 day

And the results table for Feb is:

1) Howard Kirby 123
2) StratoQ 106
3) Andy Mayhew 94
4) Paul Domaille 87
5) Chris Alder 66
6) Warden 56
7) Peter H 53
8) Scoggy 42

And that makes the full league table after 2 months look like this:-

1. (1) Andy Mayhew 294 (2)
2. (2) Howard Kirby 285 (2)
3. (4) Paul Domaille 214 (2)
4. (3) Chris Alder 196 (2)
5. (5) Peter H 178 (2)
6. (-) StratoQ 106 (1)
7. (-) Warden 56 (1)
8. (-) Scoggy 42 (1)
