I must admit to being VERY interested in the Gill equipment - with no moving parts one would assume that they would last forever. (I have had another brand of anemometer wear out already!)

Wow! - these appears to be some great pieces of kit - anyone who makes stuff for warships should be able to make things that survive in our gardens.

Is there anywhere we can get an idea of the prices of these transducers?

I do like the look of the WindObserver II - how does one mount it?

Thanks

Paul

These are neat!
I have a query re sampling intervals and in particular gusts.
The standard period for a gust is I think 2 to 3 seconds. ie a gust is the average wind speed over this 2 to 3 second period.
My Davis samples every 2.5 seconds which is somewhat near the Met office standard.

This interesting re wind gust intervals.

I wrote my own application to read the output from an anemometer head / display unit. I actually poll the wind speed output every 0.1 Second to obtian the current reading then set the max gust obtianed over 1 second - however I then go on to find the max gust over 1 minuite and 10 minuties - this is the same also for advargae wind speed over 1/10 minuites.

I am also keen to know if there is a "standard" wind gust sampel time period.

here is my app below - I saw all the 1/10 minutie wind and gust readings into a SQL database for logging etc.

Stuart
There is some discussion on gusts in one of the Klaus threads.

Seems the standard may be 3 seconds.
