I recently developed a software MeteoInfo for meteorological data view and analysis. It's free and could be downloaded from http://www.esnips.com/web/MeteoInfo.

The detailed information of MeteoInfo could be found in help document.

MeteoInfo is updated to V0.9.3, in which METAR data set is added. But only NOAA cycle METAR data format is supported at present. http://weather.noaa....her/metar.shtml

I used a new symbol font to view weather symbols in MeteoInfo, which
is not included in last installation file. So please re-download the
installation file.

I also made a 'MeteoInfo-0.9.3.tar.gz' file which
could be used in linux or mac system. The new font name is
'meteoNew.ttf' which should be registered in your computer for weather
symbols plotting (it is automaticlly done in Windows when install the
software).

mono (http://www.mono-project.com/Main_Page) is required if you want to run MeteoInfo in Linux or Mac computer.

MeteoInfo application was developed to view and analyze multi-source meteorological and spatial data. It includes support for reading netCDF grid data. A help guide is also available with examples.

MeteoInfo is freely available software designed to view and analyze meteorological and spatial data interactively. Some GIS functions were developed from ground level. It was developed with C# in the Microsoft .Net environment. MeteoInfo may be run in Windows with .NetFramework 3.5, or in UNIX like systems with Mono, an open source implementation of the .NET Framework. MeteoInfo can also be run automatically using MeteoInfo scripting with the IronPython language. The main functions are packed in the MeteoInfo class library, which could be used to conveniently develop the software.

Supported meteorological data formats:
GrADS binary grid and station data
NetCDF grid data
GRIB edition 1 and 2 data
ARL packed meteorological data
HYSPLIT model output data: concentration, particle and trajectory
METAR data (special for the cycle METAR data of NOAA, http://weather.noaa....her/metar.shtml )
NOAA ISH data
Lon/Lat Station ASCII data
MICAPS 1, 3, 4, 7, 11 and 13 format data
ASCII Grid data
Surfer Grid data

Supported Map and Image Data:
ESRI shape file with point, polyline or polygon shape type. Projected shape file was not supported at present.
Geographic map data of GrADS.
Geographic map data of MICAPS.
wmf map data. (Can be created by "Output Map Data" function in MeteoInfo)
Normal Image data: Bmp, Jpg, Gif, Tiff, Png

Plot options of grid data:
Contour
Shaded
Grid Fill
Grid Point
Vector
Barb
Raster
Streamline

Plot options of station data:
Station Point
Contour
Shaded
Barb
Weather Symbol
Station Model
Station Info

Plot options of line data (trajectory, typhoon, etc):

It seems you can't use message system (I tried to send message to you but failed), so I post the requirement here.

For fixed land stations ("AAXX"), there are no position information in the data. So I need a full Synop station list with columns of station ID, longitude, latitude and altitude to identify the position of the stations. Please send a copy to me if you have it, or you can tell me a downloadable web address of it. Thanks!
