River seemed to be running fast, possibly due to overnight rain.

A good 3-5C above what is usual for this time of year. Not a thermometer error as I was using my spirit swimming pool thermo.

Inland waters seem to have responded rapidly to the recent warmer sunnier weather.

Both Hatchmere and R. Weaver usually reach a summer max of 21-25C, while due to tides coming in across warm sands the Mersey estuary can reach 20-21C although I intend to visit New Brighton on Saturday when I expect to be brought down to earth with water temp around 10C.

Not a cooling of 0.5C since yesterday but statistically insignificant. Water bodies are never homogeneous and although I measure temps to the nearest 0.5C even this is pointless - nearest 1C is enough.

R. Mersey, New Brighton (estuary) 23-4-11: 13.5C (incoming tide over warmish sands).

Exactly the same reading as last week. I actually took two readings; one at the water's edge just paddling knee deep, and the other when in just my Speedos in deep water with the thermo immersed the regulation 400mm. There was a smidgeon between the two readings but nothing I could really estimate, and anyway insignificant.

The past few cold nights have taken their toll, while the strong, very dry wind has no doubt added to the cooling through surface evaporation.
