Daily scores for 24 hours ending 09z on 23rd November. Tricky one as temps have been falling slowly ever since midday yesterday and continue to do so right through today, but this is my best assessment with some places where temp was still falling being carried forward to tomorrow rather than today (with -30 °C and lower more than likely tonight).

Daily scoring for 24 hours ending 09z on 24th November.

A real bone-chiller in Northern Sweden with the coldest night so far at well below -30 °C as I indicated last night, and even a slight windchill too to add to it. This is not a record for Sweden in November, which is held by Vittangi at -43.0 °C (was read to nearest 0.5C) on three nights apparently, 24-26/11/1890

Also bitterly cold in the other main national contenders which missed out on points, the lowest temps there were

Šihccajávri*Norway-29.5 °C
MuonioFinland-28.5 °C
Khoseda-KhardRussia-26.4 °C

*Karasjok fell to -30.0 °C during this afternoon.

Daily scoring for  24 hours ending 09z on 25th November ( all the data in this time I think). Now the intense cold moves into NE European Russia and the temperatures there are still falling as they have all day, possibility of -40 °C tonight.

Vorkuta (Nenets for place teems with bears) is a rather grim coal mining centre of 85 000 people in the Komi Republic that owes its origins to a Soviet forced labour camp. It became a city in 1943 as an administrative base for numerous labour camps. A major uprising by inmates was brutally put down in 1953. Many of the coal mines are now closed. A nearby airfield was a base for forward Strategic Bomber Command

Vorkuta is also a playable level in Call of Duty: Black Ops, the player has to escape in an inmate uprising after being imprisoned in the camp.

Daily scoring for 24 hours ended 09z on 26th November.  Not quite -40 °C but Russian locations now have the three lowest temperatures in this project (and in Siberia Ojmjakon plummeted to -49.6 °C). Also the -33.2 °C at Suolovuopmi Lulit ( Lulit = Lodge ) is the lowest minimum yet for an eligible Norwegian location in this winter. A rarity as no Swedish location gains points.

Daily scoring for 24 hours ending 09z on 28th November. No problem to compile this a little early today, it's a Russian takeover again with the daily winner and Pinega both debutants in the scoring. In Siberia, Ojmjakon was -53.1 °C

Daily scoring for 24 hours ending 09z on 29th November. Again Russia takes all the points, with all these locations in the Arkhangel'sk or neighbouring Vologda province. Shenkursk and Vel'sk are new entries. Temperatures across to the NE of European Russia continue to fall steadily this afternoon.

Cherepovets
is the largest city in Vologda Oblast, Russia, located on the bank of the Rybinsk Reservoir of the Sheksna River, a tributary of the Volga River. Population: 311,869. Located in the cross-roads of major Volga-Baltic waterway, West-East railroads, and gas pipelines, and between two Russian federal cities—Moscow and St. Petersburg, Cherepovets is home to natural resource-consuming industries including Severstal, one of the largest iron-and-steel plants in Russia, as well as some other large factories.

Although the original settlement was founded in 1362 and gained town status in 1777 by order of Catherine the Great, there were still only 3 000 inhabitants by 1863. The city began growing especially rapidly with the construction of the Metallurgical Works in the late 1930s. The first works' blast furnace was put into operation in 1955. Unfortunately, because of these industries, Cherepovets is one of the most heavily-polluted cities in the world.

Cherepovets is not only an industrial city; it is also a centre of culture, education and sport. Professional associations of local writers, poets, actors, painters, composers, journalists function there. Cherepovets has a lot of educational infrastructures: a state university (the Cherepovets State University), a branch of Saint Petersburg Polytechnical University (Institute for Management and Information Technology), a lot of branches of Moscow high schools, technical and vocational schools etc. The Cherepovets State University is the most prominent among the other educational institutions in the city.

Cherepovets is famous for its sport achievements. The joint stock company "Severstal" regularly holds competitions in the twelve sports. The Cherepovets sportsmen annually take part in the International and All-Russian competitions. The hockey club "Severstal" is one of the leading hockey clubs in Russia. The basketball team "Severstal" as well as the chess players' team is included into the Russia Major League. Severstal Cherepovets is an ice hockey team based in Cherepovets, playing in the Kontinental Hockey League.

Daily scoring for 24 hours ended 09z on 2nd December. Not content with a successful footy World Cup host bid, it's another full bag for Russia. Koynas (Arkhangel'sk oblast ) and Ust'-Kulom (Komi) are first timers in the ever growing list of points scorers.
