Thanks Ian.

The first 25°C+ occurred today in the Var area, with up to 27.0°C at Montfort-sur-Argens.

The TV forecaster Evelyne Dhéliat mentioned it in its weather reports.

Looks like a very good possibility that the warmest place in Europe today comes from France. Spains best was at Ourense with 26.7C. Portugal may have something to say though too lol ;)

:)

Here's the temperature map of today (5:48pm - French time); some pretty colours shades!

Attached Image: Pretty colours shades.gif

From 6°C to 16°C at places in Brittany/Normandy, at the same moment, a few dozen of kilometres away from each other!

From 14°C to 24°C at places in Provence/Riviera, at the same moment, a few dozen... etc.

From 13°C to 23°C in the extreme South West.......

I just love this map!

Handmade map (+correlative list) of today's maximum temperatures:

Why all these temperature differences between close-to-one-another stations?

- In the North, on the coasts of the English Channel, it's simply because it was cloudy, and as soon as you drive toward a sunny area, you can gain up to ten degrees more!

- On the Mediterranean coast, it's because of coastal cloud banks, these ones being due to/created by the fact that the earth warms up faster than the sea and the sea being currently cold compared to the now hot inland areas.

Hopefully, I've been myself clear in my explanations. :)

One pleasant day today in my region, we had up to 22°C between Strasbourg and Metz.

This sunny and spring-ish weather will last at least for 8 days! Yes! :P

A taste of summer on most of France.

Since Friday 23rd March, an anticyclone centered on the Benelux protects France. Our country has got broad sunlight, which promotes mild temperatures or even warm, during the day. Only the extreme South-East has seen sometimes thunderstormy showers, which kept a little more freshness on Sunday, the region being influenced by sea breezes.

In Britanny, in favor of southeasterlies, the readings on Saturday 24th March, were worthy of the averages of July or August. Thus, were recorded that day 22.1°C at Brest and Dinard, 22.3°C at Landivisiau and 21.3°C at Ploumanach.

On Sunday 25th, we beat or approached records for a month of March on the islands of the West, off the Atlantic coast:
22.9°C on the island of Yeu (Vendee), *new* record (old one: 22.8°C);
20.9°C at Belle-Ile (Morbihan), *new* record (old one: 20.2°C);
22.5°C on the island of Groix, monthly record of 22.8°C;
22.3°C on the island of Noirmoutier (Vendee), monthly record of 22.9°C.

On the rest of the country, temperatures were generally 8 to 10 degrees above the normals for late March, closer to normal of May or June.

Some maximum temperatures recorded Saturday, March 24:
20.5 ° C in Strasbourg (normal end of March: 13 ° C),
22.0 ° C in Paris (normal end of March: 13 ° C),
22.7 ° C in Nimes (normal end of March: 16 ° C),
22.9 ° C in Romorantin where it was -1 ° C at dawn (normal end of March: 14 ° C),
24.2 ° C to Bergerac (normal end of March: 16 ° C),
24.3 ° C in Tulle (normal end of March: 15 ° C),
25.0 ° C in Biscarrosse (normal end of March: 15 ° C).

some maximum temperatures recorded Sunday, March 25:
25.9 ° C in Mont de Marsan
25.4 ° C to Dax
25.4 ° C in Sommières
25.2 ° C in Lézignan-Corbières
25.1 ° C in Prades le Lez
24.2 ° C to Cognac
23.0 ° C in La Rochelle
22.7 ° C in Toulouse
22.5 ° C in Paris
22.4 ° C in Brest
21.4 ° C in Strasbourg
but 17.1 ° C in Toulon, influenced by the fresh sea breezes!
... and 6.9°C at Dunkirk, under gray skies and with a sea breeze from the north!

The Languedoc region has seen some really warm (or even hot) temperatures today.

Conqueyrac has come very close to the 30°C, with a maximum of 29.4°C.

http://meteo-climat-...gre=1&nocarte=1

(the 30.3°C of Besançon is of course an error. I'm very vigilant about errors when I do my monthly thread.)

For some bizarre reason Conqueyrac`s 29.4C is no longer coming up on that link nor does it if you select Dept Gard, i am sure its correct, and will probably show up on the 00utc table lol

Ah, yes, right, it no longer appears. -_- A few hours ago, it did, and now, it didn't any more. Well, I think we must wait until tomorrow, by the time the data are fully updated.

Everything comes to an end, even the warm wave in the South of France. No more 25°C+ and even no more 20°C+ (or barely) in the coming few days.

Very cool and rainy conditions over the whole of France since Easter, and continuing for at least 10 days, which is long! No good weather in perspective...

Now, it's not cool conditions, but COLD ones over France since the beginning of the week, with heavy snowfalls in the Massif Central, above 800 m. asl. Between 70 cm and one metre of snow fell in a period of 24 hours in the Massif du Pilat (Loire department).

Please, watch this impressive video:

http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pilat (don't be confused with Dune du Pyla, which is also written Dune du Pilat, that is a sand dune in the Landes forest) ;)

We are expecting a beautiful weekend in the North-East of France, with temperatures up to 29°C (!) at Strasbourg, I think we deserve it after those 3-4 weeks of rainy and cool weather! :D

Finally, tomorrow will see a somewhat decent 25-26°C at Strasbourg instead of the 29°C forecasted a few days ago.

Today, a strong Foehn effect is leading the temperatures to exceed 30°C in some Alpine valleys and some Provençal valleys. Exemples : Carpentras (Provence) & Grenoble (Alps).

As it's a Foehn effect, temperatures of 30°C in the South-East are not widespread, but are only localized.

New monthly records for a few locations of the South-East today.

*new April records*
31.1°C at Sartène (Corse-du-Sud)
30.2°C at Grenoble (Isère)

At the same time, it was 12°C at Poitiers (western France), 8°C at Dublin (Ireland) and around 14°C in most of Portugal (cf. Catherine Laborde, from TF1's weather forecasts program).

Oooh, it's too hot now here. 30°C have been hit today in Strasbourg... Have enjoyed the beautiful weather in the countryside today... The city is surely unbreathable!

France is likely to see its first summer weather of the year, mainly in the South-West, by the middle of this week. Temperatures *might* climb up to 33-34°C in the Landes and the Gironde (Aquitaine region).

Attached Image: Aquitaine region map (South-West of France).gif

Furthermore, the country has seen its coolest April for at least ten years. http://www.meteorolo...-du-251700.html (link - page in French)
_______
_______
_______

Attached Image: Temp° diff. relative to the avg. temp° (France - April 2012).png

Translation:

With a surplus of 0.1°C across France, April 2012 is the coolest since 2001.
However, significant differences are observed between the west, which was well into the cool side, and the south-east where temperatures were in surplus.

Low pressure and rather cool conditions dominated the month and led to some remarkable totals of rain on the west, on the central part and on the east-central. In some weather stations in southwestern and central-west, the month of April is even the wettest since records began.
At the very end of the month, especially hot air from the Sahara invaded the east of our country and allowed temperatures to reach record highs for a month of April. We thus observed temperatures of over 30°C for example in Carpentras (Provence), Grenoble (Alps) and Strasbourg (Alsace).

In free atmosphere at 850hpa (about 1,400 m.), the deficit is about 1°C, but large differences are still observed between the north-west and the south-east, like at ground level.
