Corsica was swept by the Sirocco today. It led places west of the Corsican mountains to hit 35°C+.

The highest temperature so far in the year 2012 (for France) was reached at Sartène (Corse-du-Sud) today, with 37.1°C.

During the last few days, France has been under a gloomy weather regime, with rain, clouds, wind and sunny spells alternately. All this with poor temperatures for the season, and in addition it will last for another 5 days (at least)!

The only region to (relatively) escape this weather is of course the Mediterranean, although the Roussillon has had some rainy spells, too. Regarding the temperatures, they are barely seasonable. Indeed, at this period of the year, we can expect far more from Provence and Languedoc than the recent meagre 25/26°C.

A new article about the coolness affecting western Europe (and particularly the UK and northern France) has been published on the official website Météo France.

The heat wave in the USA and the bad weather in western Europe are linked: explanations on these two videos of the French TV news (be patient, there are 30 seconds of advert' before the videos start, it's very annoying).

Some kind of threatening clouds here near Strasbourg. :blink:

Besides, about that, an Amber Warning was issued earlier today by Météo-France for tonight, because of strong thunderstorms.

Yes, Pit! :) And according to the short-term forecast and to the seasonal forecast, the weather in southern France, and in particular the Mediterranean South, will be exceptionally sunny, dry and hot.

Year 2012 is gone off to be a "grand cru"! :D

The heat that concerns southern Europe should push into northern France on Thursday, with values comprised between 30 and 34°C. The South-West of France will have the hottest temperatures of the country, with 35 to 39°C, while the Mediterranean South-East should remain at around 35°C, like the previous days.

Provence has been particularly hot these past two weeks, enough to consider this as a moderate heat wave with temperatures that are kept steady above 35°C.

Hi Paul! Indeed, not for long! I think forecasts have changed since this morning as I now see that Thursday won't be that hot, and this is now Wednesday - tomorrow - that will see temperatures of 35/39°C in the SW. Oh, I should be more careful next time and be sure to get the best and most accurate information before posting. :unsure:

EDIT: thanks for your information btw!

I don't know if the station has official status, but highest I've seen today is 35.9 °C at Soumoulou ( Pyrénées-Atlantiques, between Pau and Tarbes ) with concurrent dewpoint of 20.2 °C.

EDIT actually Toulouse-Blagnac hit 36.3 °C, and now reports 37 °C on METAR ( EDIT again! actually 36.9 °C )

Toulouse-Blagnac maxed at 37.1 °C can't tell exactly what the dewpoint was at that time but probably around 10 °C.

Very high temperatures in the whole of France (or almost).

30°C at Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, in the Alps;
30°C at Dunkirk (Dunkerque), in the Far North;
30°C also at Strasbourg, and with an unpleasant feeling.

This is the hottest day so far, by considering the entire country.
