MorganeLanesle - 7/2/2011 08:52 What a pleasant week-end they had in the South ! Once more, the temperatures went over 20°C under a cloudless sky...

That makes St Paul de  Fenouillet the 2nd warmest place in Europe for this day, very nice temperatures for February I must say :-)

A rare phenomenon : some of the highest temperatures occurred at high altitude, sometimes beating some low altitude temperatures.

Alps & Pyrenees : >1000m, +15°C and >1500m, +10°C.

Chamonix, in the northern French Alps (at 1042 metres high), has had a new February record, with more than 19°C !

Four stations got more than 22°C, Urepel (22.7°C), Bustince-Iriberry (22.5°C), Fontannes (22.3°C) & Rosans (22.0°C).

Here's a link to an article of Météo-France (official website) which talks about the exceptional warmth in France, and especially in the different mountains areas of the South.

Another very mild day in the South, except around the Mediterranean sea, where the mist and the low cloud banks prevent the temperatures from getting higher.

Lomné & Saint-Girons were 19.9°COrthez and Pau were 19.8°C, today - 8th February 2011.

[Note : there was a bug for the station of Cruas, which has of course not reached 30°C today.]

Yesterday (Mon 7th Feb 2011), map of the MAX temps :

The mildness wave has pushed northwards today, with Paris region having up to 18°C.

South-West remains warm with 20°C in Biarritz.

You're welcome, dear Uskys! ;)

Today is also the 25th anniversary of the coldest temperature ever recorded in Nice (French Riviera), with a barely cool ( :p ) -5.8°C (11th Feb 1986).

Also, on 11th Feb, but in 1979, Ajaccio (Corsica) managed a good +25.3°C.

Hi Ian, sorry, I wasn't online this week-end. It finally works now... It must have been down for maintenance I think.
___

Snow has made its return on the French mountains (mainly the highest ones), I could verify there wasn't so much snow than usually in the Vosges (North-East), as I spent a little week-end there. [n] [sn] [n] ^_^

What superb sunny week & week-end (+ next week !) we'll have in the whole of France ! This did not happen since several months (to have such an extent of excellent weather during such an extent of days...) Spring is coming, definitely ! Nevertheless, the temperatures will remain cool, due to this northeastern flow, but it's this one which brings this dry weather and this beautiful sun, so needed in our northern lands...

Hi Morgane, Yesterday saw anti-cyclonic gloom, but today its beautiful and sunny here in Cornwall and Devon, though its cool in the shade, currently 7C

Its nice to see the sunshine and im hoping this will last a few days as we need to dry out after last months rain days = 25 days over 0.2 mm with 2 trace days (less than 0.05mm) and just one dry day the 28th

I love Spring!!  [sun]

Cold air currently on South-East of Europe (notably Greece) pushed westward into Corsica & South-East of continental France, and as this cold air also moved northwards, it became even colder. (Un)fortunately, the air is dry, so it did not snow in these regions. A cold morning with frost in the interior of the lands (including those of South Corsica) occurred ; while the afternoon was really chilly with an unpleasant wind and sometimes no more than 12°C, despite the bright sun...

Noteworthy maximums (9am-9pm) :

Menton : 11.3°C
Nice : 11.4°C
Cannes : 11.5°C
__________

Hyères : 12.8°C
Toulon : 14.1°C

A tropical storm is approaching Mauritius and La Réunion (Indian Ocean).

In the middle of last week, a tropical storm has formed in the middle of the Indian Ocean. Named Cherono, it moved in the open ocean, without touching any land. But...

France is likely to see its first 25°C+, in the South AND in the North-East, next Saturday (2nd April 2011).

Finally, it was on the 1st April that France hit 25°C for the first time in 2011 (instead of what I thought, 2nd April). Extreme South-West was very very warm, particularly on the coast, as Saint-Jean-de-Luz hit 29.7°C (they almost killed two birds with one stone, by hitting 25°C and nearly hitting 30°C [hehe] ).

The three hottest cities were all by the sea, Saint-Jean-de-Luz (Pointe de Socoa), Biarritz and Capbreton, with more than 28°C.

What a hot start ! ...hope next summer will keep its promises !

Among Infoclimat's very own stations, Espelette's one had a minimum of 20.6°C yesterday (2nd April), BUT this is not an official station, although it undoubtedly uses a very good and very reliable equipment.

(as it is not an official Météo-France Station, I won't use this figure for my April thread)

2nd April 2011 : map + list...

Analysis :

Chilly in Brittany, with 14 to 16°C (but these are normal temperatures for the region at this time of the year) ;
Also chilly around the Gulf of Lion, due to persistant cloud banks : 15 to 16°C (these are below average temps) ;
Cooler temps in the Basque Country than the previous day, with only 20 to 21°C, and very warm temps at the foothills of the Central Pyrenean Range (26 to 29°C - last figure which is not visible on the map) ;
Very warm in the Alpine valleys, even hot in Central France, up to 29°C, and pleasantly warm in the Paris region, and in the East ;
Pleasant temps on the English Channel and below average temps on the Riviera, despite the sun, but it is due to the cool Mediterranean sea, which is at about 15°C in early April ;
Please note the big difference between Toulouse (20°C) and the Central Pyrenees (29°C), whereas there is a distance of less than 100 km (clouds were present in Toulouse).
