Southwestern France is likely to beat some heat records for an early April and perhaps even for an entire month of April.

30°C should be reached in the Basque Country, Béarn and in the Landes.

South-West of Europe was hot yesterday, all along the Atlantic coast, from Portugal through Spain to France...

30°C again in La Coruna (Galicia), 31°C in Porto (Portugal)...

http://france.meteofrance.com/france/actu/actu?portlet_id=74935&document_id=25235

On the document, it's possible to see where the 32.4°C of the valley of Bustince was reached...

I've had lunch in Luxembourg today, on a terrace, it was wonderful ! 24°C is a perfect temp to feel comfortable... :P

Last night was the first night where a temperature didn't go below 20°C in France, with at least two stations recording such values : Menton (northern French Riviera) with 21.9°C, and Nice (capital of the Riviera) with 20.2°C.

Sea temperature warms up really fast lately, with 19 to 21°C in the French Mediterranean, making waters off France, warmer than those off the coast of North Africa, which doesn't happen so often.

And here is a complete file (PDF file) about the French drought of year 2011, sometimes compared with the one of 1976, which was the worst in recent history.

Only the South-East of France had got normal, to above normal amounts of rain.

Here's a map showing the great disparity that France can sometimes have, and that was the case early this morning, with 1.2°C to 22.8°C. We're "the little USA of Europe".. hehe :D

Extreme heat is stagnating over Mediterranean France for a few days now.

Over 35°C temperatures have been recorded in many places.

I'll update my May thread soon.

New heat records have been broken in the Mediterranean South; and to a lesser extent, it's the turn to the Aquitanian South to get hot weather, today...

In the video (link above), even a Texan American was feeling hot on the 'Place de la Comédie', Montpellier...

Indeed, it's unusual to get such a heat in May... South is usually warm to very warm at the end of spring, but not at this point !

A few figures (see below).

Gard department (where is it ?)

A clear cooling has occurred in France yesterday and the day before ; only Côte d'Azur and Corsica continued to have hot temperatures (the latter having been really discreet during the heat wave). Some regions, particularly in the South-West, have lost more than 10°C between the afternoon of -May, 25th- and the one of -May, 26th-.

The forecasters say that from next Monday, it will be very dry and relatively warm again. Unfortunately, the few rains that fell yesterday and today weren't copious enough : yes, this is now a true drought in a lot of regions (Central, West-Central).

30th May 2011 :

Strong localized foehn near Vichy, North of the Massif Central, with a southerly wind, leading to very hot temperatures in the Loire department (42). In a general way, all the East of France was hot : here, in Strasbourg, we had near 32°C.

Otherwise, thunderstorms and heavy rains are currently occuring from the South-West into the North-East. Possible floods ça et là...

Tomorrow, a high number of locations will lose 15°C (!) in the afternoon.

I'm currently in Pontivy in Brittany and today was a wet and windy day. Temps hung around 18-20 for most of the day but not a very pleasant one.

True, Dava : great disparity today between the East (Alsace for example) and the West (Brittany).

Today was a refreshing day, and tomorrow will even be a very chilly day : on this 1st June 2011, and for the first time since early April we'll have -really- below average temperatures, and this, all over the country.

...an impressive drop in temperatures within two days...
