JANUARY 2011 - AVERAGE TEMPERATURE, RATHER WET AND CLOUDY
The average temperature here for January 2011 was only very slightly above average, largely due to cloudy nights resulting in few frosts and none of those very cold. It was for the most part an anticyclonic month which started and ended with cool spells, but with a mild, windy and very wet few days mid month. However daytime temperatures were entirely unexceptional.
Rainfall for the month was 126% of average at 95.9mm with the bulk of it falling from the 5th to the 18th, the number of raindays was above average. Snow and/or sleet was observed on two of the rainfall days but the falls were too light and brief to give any accumulation.
Sunshine was rather below average at around 70% of the January normal, with the period of 11th to 17th especially gloomy.
