Well..i don´t know where to write this..

Actually, Amareleja 35.2ºC...on way to a 36ºC+ max.
Alvalade do Sado is now with 34.6ºC, afer a MINIMUM OF +7ºC !!!!!

In Portugal, lower ground is suffering tremenodus daily amplitudes of nearly 30ºC, from minumums near 5º to maximums around 30-35ºC.....on the other side Higher more exposed zones are having warm minimums...Lisbon is currently with a mean minum for the first 10 days of Oct. of 19.5ºC, and Portalegre observatory ( 600m ) has had 5 tropical nights since Oct the first.

Crete is having much cooler than average maximums the last day or so, in Palaiohora`s case the last 3 days. Average October temps for Ierapetra should be 24.9C mean max, and 16.7C mean minimum, Rhodes is similar. Malaga hoever has been having much warmer temps over the last couple of days, there October average is normally 23.7C/14.3C, however Malaga`s lowest max mins this month have been 24.6C/17.7C

Exceptional high temperatures these days in Eastern Iberian Peninsula. Many records have been exceeded.

For instance, here in Catalonia, average temperature from 1st to 12th October is the same as a normal July.
In the Fabra's Barcelona observatory (that one which has the longest data series) this october has reached and exceeded several days the absolute previous record. Every day, new record, and new record, and new record... And today the maximum value of the month (and ever) has been observed: 32,5ºC(!!)

The second highest temperature ever in October was... 31,7ºC two days ago... the third one 31,5ºC last week on the 5th, the fourth one 31,0ºC yesterday, the fifth one 30,8ºC last week on the 4th october, and the sixth were 30,0ºC on the 10th October 1997.
So, the five highest temperatures in October in this observatory have taken place this year! And maybe tomorrow 30ºC will be reached again.

More records in other places of Catalonia, such as 35ºC in some places of Girona area and Costa Brava. Extraordinary...

Another important detail: the temperature range Some examples of today:
Girona: 34,7ºC/7,5ºC
Fornells de la Selva (near Costa Brava Airport): 34,3ºC/6,0ºC (27,7ºC range temperature, like in deserts!)
Das (in a Pyrenee valley) 29,0ºC/-0,1ºC

On the other hand, around 400-600 meters above sea level minimums have been over 20,0ºC.

Probably we will no see anything similar in the future. We could compare this situation with 2003 heat wave.

Finally, 2011 has been a year with many records here: March rainiest ever; April hottest ever; May second hottest ever; June rainiest for the last 20 years, July rainiest ever and coolest since 1977; one of the driest Augusts eve;, the second hottest September ever; and now the October heat wave...

I think a few records would of been broken for Spain, for example Badajoz record of 35.4C on 1 October 1977, was beaten on the 6th with 36.1C

Another white wash for the Spanish resorts, Malaga gaining ground on the Greek resorts

The Greek resorts still going through this cold spell, and it seems set to continue. Ierapetra only managed 18C today on Crete.

Incredibly cool across Crete and the Southern Agean again, Palaihora max of just 16C actually dwarfed by Chania Souda on Crete which only managed a max of 12.2C, these temps would be considered on the coldish side in the heart of winter!

For example look at Chania`s average max temp for January

Rhodes has gone down 2 places in the October means at the expense of Malaga and Fuengirola the latter going up 2 places

Again Greece is generally much cooler than average although Palaiohora having a max of 21.2C isnt too bad. Malaga not far behind Ierapetra now in the Annual table and only 0.63C from Palaiohora occupying top spot. uploads/monthly_10_2011/post-30656-0-14435900-1319043174_thumb.gifuploads/monthly_10_2011/post-30656-0-79286300-1319043179_thumb.gif

The Spanish resorts still warmer than the Greek resorts, oddly due to Greece having the lower minimums

Spain took all the honours for October, have not posted for a while because Ierapetra station went off line but has just come back on today. Palaiohora`s nearest Spanish rival Malaga Port is just 0.62C behind with 5 months to go!
