Looking at current models it would seem southern Spain are set for a hot weekend, especially Friday and Saturday as High Pressure in the Med drags up hot air from Africa. 850mb temps around 18C for Andalusia, resulting in possible 30C for the likes of perhaps Seville and Andujar. This warm upper air could clip the SE of the UK but current GFS models suggest it will just miss us. The freezing level for example over Andalusia on Saturday 2nd is a whopping 3600m.

Portugal and France will also feel the effects too.

Just a note for Greece,so far March has been colder than January and Feb for most areas of the country in mean temps due to the prolonged cold snap earlier this month

Yesterday was a warm day on the coast of Malaga. Malaga Puerto and Estepona exceeded 24ºC. Minimum temperatures were also high: 14.8ºC in Fuengirola and 15.6ºC in Port of Malaga. However a computer error in the summary of AEMET puts 5.6°C for Port of Malaga.
I remember tha Andalusia also had an invasion of cold air in early March. But in Andalucia invasions of cold air are softer than in others countries because of its position in the southwest corner of the continent, far from where the masses of cold air are generated.

Regards!

Yes Malaga was warm yesterday as was Estepona who had an hourly max of 24.7C. I make the Port of Malaga hourly minimum as 15.9C. Oliva pipped Estepona as the warmest in Europe yesterday with 25.0C.

Not as warm in Andalucia today currently only Jerez and Malaga that have scraped past 20C.

Malaga Port hourly temps 21Z 27th to 09Z 28th March below

Oh Yes! Definitely, That will be my main thread, this one i have managed some time on just lately due to being on nights with some time on my hand, so dont worry about that. This thread i will post or update just once or maybe twice a week. I look forward to the battle of the GIANTS! But August last year will take some beating eh?

In Spain it is very common that the maximum temperatures occur at 5 pm and even at 6 pm (spanish time). This is because we have the same time as in Italy, but Spain is much more to the west. That is the reason why in Spain dinner is eaten so late. Here it gets dark very late.
Now Fuengirola 26.5ºC. Malaga 25.8ºC. Malaga Puerto 25.6ºC.

Very warm across southern Spain yesterday. However it wasnt a Spanish white wash like the day before, with Crete warming up nicely, albeit slowly

It will be hard to see an August 2010 scenario bsc both Attica and Andalusia were close to their all time mean records DURING THE SAME PERIOD

True Pit, but one of them may break a record, agreed it were very strange and probably rare for them both to be record breakers and in the same month and year.

Very warm across inland Andalucia atm,

Jerez 28.4C
Seville 28.4C
Moron 27.9C
Andujar 27.4C

Both Seville and Moron De La Frontera got up to at least 29.2C and Andujar 29.1C on the hourly obs, possibly one of them may have our first 30C max of the year. Hottest place so far this year was Murcia Observatory with 29.2C, on the 26th February and this was a new site record for February.

Andujar 29.7C

Moron 29.5C

Seville 29.3C

And another glimpse around, and  Ierapetra on Crete may of recorded the highest minimum of the year sofar with a low of 16.7C

Indeed Pit, Not having studied Euro temps in the winter and spring, i take it Greeces temps for March are indeed unusual, especially the cold spell and the lack of any warm spell, with the exception of Heraklion that had its moments.
