Just a very quick glimpse at AEMET, 30c wasnt breached, ut still hot for the time of year. Andujar 29.7C making it the hottest daily recorded temperature so far this year.

Well here are the end of March figures with round one going to Spain. Andujar recorded a max of 29.7C the hottest so far this year. Yesterday also saw some warm minimums With Fuengirola 17.2C, Palaiohora 17.0C and Ierapetra 16.7C and Karpathos 16.2C

Now lets see what April brings!

About the same with Jan and Feb for Greece the means due to the cold spell.In fact in some areas even colder than January!

Indeed Pit, Not having studied Euro temps in the winter and spring, i take it Greeces temps for March are indeed unusual, especially the cold spell and the lack of any warm spell, with the exception of Heraklion that had its moments.

A number of places across Spain saw over 30c yesterday including northern Spain, with the likes of Santander and Bilbao. Also one or two places in Portugal too, Ovar Maceda got to 30.8C. Hottest though was Andujar in Spain with 32.3C

Worth noting that La Coruna (Galicia) saw 30.4°C on 1st April. This city is usually very oceanic. Impressive.

This year we had to wait until April for the first 30 to be breached compared to 2010 when there was no month without a 30C.Even in January.Crete recording all the 30's till March if I am not mistaken in 2010.

You're right, Pit, by counting all the stations, there had been at least one station and one day, with at least 30.0°C per month, in Crete, between Januaray and December 2010. I verified. [sun]

So, is Greece the only country in Europe which is able to reach 30°C each month ? [sun]

Further more i also know that Dona Mencia had the warmest minimum with 19.0C but as i put in my thread europes extremes it is

for places under 500 meters, Dona Mencia is 650 m !

Had to use Ogimet for a few and other sources of hourly data for some of the Spanish stations where some of their maximums were recorded at 0000hrs and the minimums 2350hrs in the same day. So there are variations to what AEMET has recorded. I use minimum temps 2100 to 0900hrs and maximum temps 0900hrs to 2100hrs which is a pretty much accepted standard for synops stations around the world. (All times local).

Nearly another clean sweep for Spain but Palaiohora spoilt the party for 2 days in a row.

...Probably due to a "foehny-southerly wind"... High Sierra Nevada is just South of Dona Mencia...
