July 2011 had 58.7 mm up to 24th at my place of work, when I went away for 2 weeks; there was 17.6 mm from then up to 7th August inclusive and there has been 16.4 mm since (mainly on 10th August), giving an total to 11th August of 439.2 mm. This is probably fairly close to normal.

Hello. [hi]

290.7 mm for the year. Ranging from 75.9 mm in February (the only month to be above average precipitation-wise) to 1.5 mm in April, it's been relatively dry here. In fact, we're amongst the driest in the country this summer. (Good or bad depending on your preference)

Year to end August: 238.7mm

60% of average

Over the past 12 months we've had just 62% of average rainfall. August 2010 was the last 'wet' month.

Subject to verification- I have recorded 250.1mm so far this year - I need to check this figure as I know there are discrepancies in some of my monthly totals - Any revision will definitely be downwards -

With another 24.2 mm from 12th to 28th August, rainfall to the end of August was I believe 463.6 mm at my place of work (I was away on holiday from 29th August to 4th September and when I came back there was 17.5 mm in the gauge, but I believe all this fell in the first 4 days of September; the total to 4th September is thus 491.1 mm). The average rainfall at Armagh Observatory, about 10 miles away in a similar lowland situation, for January to August is 517.2 mm so at a rough estimate the rainfall here was about 463.6/517.2 or 89.6% of average (I suspect that the average rainfall here might be marginally less than at Armagh so possibly the percentage is a little higher. A slightly wetter end to the year could of course mean that the year as a whole may end up aveage or even slightly above. With a dry April followed by a disappointing summer and the prospect of a cool unsettled autumn, this year has had some echoes of 1974 (it was the coolest summer since 1993 in Northern Ireland, although of course most summers have been warmer than average since then). Of course weather history does not repeat itself but if it did we might have a midl winter in 2011/2012 and a warm summer in 2012!
