Receiving Weather Station Transmissions

Hi,
I have a W8681 aws complete with the display unit, what I need to know is if the DCF77 receiver in the unit
is the part that receives the information from the sensor or is it something else in the display box that decodes
the information and the DCF77 is only there for the time related part of the signal.
If it is not the DCF77 can someone tell what does collect the transmission data, I want to be able to make a small receiver
to collect the sensor transmission and use temp,humidity & dew point info to automatically start a small heater unit on a telescope, whilst
still r4ceiving the data to my AWS.
