No real surprise to see Plymouth`s low maximum yesterday, infact i am surprised it actually got that high, after a beautiful sunny start an hour after dusk, Plymouth was shrouded in sea mist and fog which lasted all day and all last night. Today however has been much nicer.

Well Plymouth made up for the day before`s cold foggy day and had the warmest maximum from this group. Looks like the cold misty weather affected some other parts like St James Park and Gravesend though.

Northolt had the highest maximum from this group with 15.3C the first time this has happened since 3rd January, it was also the warmest place in the UK yesterday

Below, the first table is all the means and extremes just for the month of February, the second table is all the same but for all of winter, the third and fourth are the latest daily and accumulative tables since 1st September, thats if anyone is actually still following this thread lol

P.S Guernsey has just pipped St Catherines Point into 3rd place by the narrowest of margins

Also note that a few stations from this group yesterday did not have any maximum synop codes at 18Z so have had to use the hourly maxes instead so a small disadvantage for those, they are highlighted under the max temps in the last chart in yellow text instead of white

I'm still paying attention :) The cold February was a good month for St Mary's then, but still not enough IMO to keep it on top all the way.

Cheers Dave, compiling these threads can be a lonely existence at times lol. If we look at all 3 winter months, St Mary`s had an impressive over 10C mean maximum for each month!

I must admit that I haven't looked into this thread for a long time Ian, but exceedingly happy to see its still going. IIRC the figure for this year are not only higher than last year at this time, (obviously) but the difference between the top and the bottom is somewhat less.

We are still at risk for very cold nights, especially with the high likely to park over here for a while. That should give some advantage to the coastal areas for a while. But the Equinox is not so far away and that I think is when things might start changing.

Thanks Liz, Wondered where you got too lol ;) I`m estimating around a 0.3 to 0.5C advantage to London this time around, come the end of August.

A good day for the South West contingent yesterday. St Catherines has taken 3rd spot back off Guernsey, but very very close!

Hmm, if I were a gambling man I would put a tenner or so that the positions will be generally reversed after 365 days....or is it 366 this year?! So far the figures are just about following geographic expectations, but it could be an unusual year, who knows ??

Cheers,
Paul D

When looking at the means ranging from bottom place to top ranging from 9.5C to 11.5C after 6 months, these means wouldn`t look out of place after a full year, but with the 6 warmest months to come this could be a record breaking 12 months and i can see many of these obtaining a 12 month mean of over 12C, which is very rare and I have only ever recorded that once for St Germans since 1996, when in 1999 i had an annual mean of 12.02C, of course this was January to December inclusive, but this shouldn`t matter at the end of the day a rolling 12 months is ..... 12 months!

Below is last years final table from September 1st 2010 to August 31st 2011 alongside this years since September 1st or a tadge after 6 months - comparing them you should see what I mean. Oh and Guernsey has re-taken 3rd again from St Catherine`s Point alot of see - sawing and jostling between these two for 3rd place at the moment :o:D

Continuing on the mild side, the Channel Islands and around central southern coasts being the coldest. Still jostling for 3rd between Guernsey and St Catherines Point.

Pleasantly warm yesterday, with London topping the first 3 places.

Northolt had the highest maximum temperature from this group yesterday but was let down by having the coldest minimum.

The low cloud and thick fog that has plagued the South West really suppressed temperatures yesterday, especially maximums. St Mary`s had the coldest max temp from this group with just 9.0C, this is the first time that has happened since 3rd January. St James Park has taken advantage of the situation and taken 9th place off of Culdrose, lol, Guernsey coldest for 2nd day running

Much cooler day yesterday especially the afternoon maximums with many places failing to get to 10C. St James Park though once again leading the way. Plymouth with the 2nd warmest max was let down by having the coldest minimum from the group

Quite some differences in temperature, not it has to be said about the minimums which were largely uniform, however the maximums there was a sharp contrast, with London (inland) doing better. This largely due to less moist conditions, whereas the coasts in places were plagued by mist/fog and clag, suppressing the temperatures somewhat. Plymouth was lovely and sunny yesterday hence it got into double figures.

Look at the difference between Culdrose and Camborne a distance of only 9.5 miles away from each other as the crow flies but the latter enjoying a 2.7C advantage over Culdrose

Well here is the last 4 days worth, been a bit behind due to my LCD screen on my laptop breaking so have had to run a HDMI through to my TV - new screen arrived this morning so will attempt to fit that this afternoon.

Back to this group, The Solent had the warmest minimum on the 17th this was the first time that has happened since 26th September!! Plymouth has had the warmest maximum 2 days running, the last time that happened was on the 20th/21st November.

St James Park has just nudged the Solent from 8th place as it starts to do its climb up the table, a sure winner of this I would of thought, unless Summer 2012 turns out to be really pants!
