Seeing that is works fine for Dave Clarke, I have tried pasting it into other browsers (I use Firefox). In Google Chrome is works perfectly so the issue relates only to Firefox. However, links from other messages work fine in Firefox, it is only the links from UKWW notifications that fail. This problem is not a simple one, it seems.

Further, I have just discovered that when the page fails to open, if I remove everything after index.php in the url, the recent topics page opens. Therefore, it seems that it is the "?showtopic=87634&view=getnewpost" which is not liked by Firefox.

It is not an add-on causing the problem.

I disabled all add-ons, the problem was still there. I tried in safe mode, the problem was still there.

Perhaps it is version specific. I am running version 8.0 in Windows XP.

Likewise (scratches head). Just checking it is just this link ( can't get link to work - www.ukweatherworld.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=87634&view=getnewpost) you're clicking on with no spaces at the end or anything???

The link was copied straight from the post notification message. So I have not changed it. It is the same with all post notifications from UKWW.

I have just tried an old version of mobile Firefox and that failed to load the link as well. So it may not be a version issue after all. It looks as if the problem relates to my machine, Firefox, and UKWW specifically. I think it may prove impossible to get to the bottom of this one but if anyone has any ideas, I will gratefully try them.

Well, I have now discounted Firefox. I forwarded one of the notifications to my wife's computer and it worked perfectly. I am starting to think about my UKWW profile. I've had a look but cannot see anything there that could cause this. I will try logging out and see if that makes a difference.

Logging out made no difference so it is not my profile. I can see that this is going to have to go into the too difficult box for a while.

Ordinarily I'd suggest trying to clear your cache and cookies but your use of the mobile Firefox (which I imagine has a different store for those thing) might tend to rule that out. Could still be worth a try if we're in "desperate mode"

What I have done now it to install a program called "Change Default Browser" which quickly does what it says on the tin. I will now open UKWW links in Chrome and revert back to Firefox for the rest.

I cant post a new topic in the European Chat thread, When compiling Europes extremes i past in the wiki pedia article and it keeps coming up you must enter a post, when i clearly have, i tried writing something before the past but still get the same message

Have managed it but had to use a different browser i normally use Firefox but had to use IE8, and even then it told me when i pressed send that the connection was lost and to view diagnostic report etc, however upon checking it went through, something is not right. I have had problems before where i get the message Service currently unavailable but when checking it has actually posted, found this out when i duplicated a new thread 3 or 4 times because i didnt think it had posted, but this is a new one on me where it stated i must enter a post even though i did, tried it numerous times. It only ever happens in the European thread/forum

Still having trouble posting in tables, e.g. the weather summaries from WeatherOnline. Any hints?
I think I still miss the "edit HTML" option of the past for sorting out some of the formatting errors in the supposedly WYSIWYG editor

Oh and also I'd quite like an embarrassed smilie adding to the list for occasions like this

Go down to the the bottom of the screen and expand the Options section - select HTML-ON Auto-Linebreak Mode



I have noticed though that Firefox (which I am testing out with UKWW) doesn't handle HTML formatting in tables very well if you copy the table from within Firefox but is fine for tables copied from Chrome for example. Possibly an add-on is required?

So some issues may be caused by the browser - and as PK2 says you can't manipulate the HTML easily to tidy up problems, for example it doesn't like applying formatting changes to more than one cell at a time which is hopeless for large tables.

Selecting cells to copy in Firefox and using Ctrl-Shift-C to copy table cells and paste with HTML-Mode On now gives the same result as C&Ping from Chrome. Hope this helps

Something seems to be flaky in the European Weather Chat Thread, I posted a new topic and got the message "The Service is Unavailable". Tried again with the same and a third time I got 403 Forbidden. Now I see it has actually posted the new thread twice.

I also get every time when I try to use the REPORT function.
403 - Forbidden: Access is denied.
