The strong winds do seem to b a bit further south than initially expected now. Winds have increased substantially in many areas in the last hour or so it seems behind the cold front . The low is 968mb NW of Ireland atm with a wrap around occlusion moving towards far NW Ireland as of 0800BST

Knock Airport in Ireland was West 42 Gust 59 kt (69mph) at 09Z

Wave height at the M4 buoy 45m west of the Donegal coast off NW Ireland was 25ft.

Earlier on Hurst Castle gusted 55kt at 0130 and Portland 54kt at 0240BST. Winds have decreased here at present though.

Lands End max was 58mph at 0515BST.

The stronger winds are starting to impact the W Isles now as well.. eg Islay METAR EGPI 121150Z AUTO 24038G51KT 210V270 //// OVC012/// 14/12 Q0980 RERA=and continue in parts of N Ireland eg Eglington METAR EGAE 121120Z 24037G53KT 9999 -RA FEW015 BKN025 15/12 Q0982=

Also evidence of winds increasing at Malin Hd now in the the strongest wind zone south of the low , winds are west 44 Gust 66kt at 12Z (77mph)
Not sure theres really any evidence of a sting jet though having developed. In the end development was more akin to a classic norwegian model low than an SK development.

Sting jet may have been present earlier??

Hi All,

Strong winds at our station in Shap - the 10 minute mean right now is 30mph. The max gust is not as high as the metO site though - only 48mph - so perhaps the anemometer is a little sheltered. Anyhow - will post anything over 50mph! - lots over 40 mph.

Does it look like the strongest part of this has already past the Lake District area?

Just had a garden gust of 43mph, highest of the day so far and since February 7th. Wind direction is WSW.

I'm in Porthcawl for a few days, measured wind speed at 15:00 & 15:30 using a hand held skywatch device. It was gusting 33mph at 15:00 and it was up to 37mph at 15:30.
