Well i have decided to, probably against my better judgement as last years was so time consuming checking hundreds of synop codes each day, and boy was i busy with the early cold of last year.

Have decided to go with just the Top 20 from last years thread with different points scoring. The points will be whatever the minimum is so say Aboyne gets -6.0C they get -6.0 points, the highest negative points at the end of the trial will win, OR if there are no negative points at the end the station with the lowest points per se wins. However theres a twist! Maximum temperatures are also included to deduct points so if Aboyne then had a max of 2.0C then their score goes to -4.0 points.

First day of activation will be when the first of the 20 stations have an air frost, then scoring commences for that day for everyone, min and max temps used. Thereafter if no station gets an air frost then no points awarded and only if one station or more gets an air frost then the rest are scored accordingly, for that day.
The end will happen when the group has its first No Air frost day after 1st April 2012

Will be using Ogimet and the UKMO for temperatures. Below is an example of the table, the figures are ficticious, however the 20 stations on there are the stations i will be using as they were the top 20 from last year, and it makes my life easier, hopefully. We now await the 1st air frost from one of the 20 stations

Any questions please ask

Thanks Dave, Although it wont be anywhere near as much as last years when there were 91 stations involved, this time i only have 20 to look out for - that and hoping for a milder winter ( ) it shouldnt be too bad

Interesting concept for awarding points, I will have a look at something similar for Icebox Europe Redux although I don't want to restrict it to a set number of stations. I shall run a trial "offline" first to see how much work it involves.

Altnaharra activated the 1st Icebox day yesterday, and caught alot of the ones further south with warm temps, hence high points! Remember the lowest points wins and points are only added if at least one of the 20 in the table have an air frost.

I have decided not to use the maximum temperatures as well, was far too time consuming. So far we have had 3 activated icebox Britain days the first and second day both activated by Altnaharra on 12th and 13th, 14th saw no air frosts, then Benson activated Icebox on the 15th. None from this group received an air frost for the 16th so no points awarded.

No fewer than 9 of the 20 stations activated Icebox yesterday, with the English stations (in red) had the lions share. Altnaharra however remains top of the league.

Aboyne activated Icebox Britain yesterday and was the only one with an air frost, as a result has jumped up from 9th to 4th place. First activation since the 20th so 8 days ago.

13 of the 20 stations activated Icebox Britain yesterday. Only Exeter and Sennybridge have not recorded an air frost yet. Altnaharra knocked off the top spot, Eskdalemuir now leading with Aboyne in 2nd place.

Both Altnaharra and Loch Glascarnoch bombed yesterday with warm minimums of over +8C, whilst those around them all had air frosts, as a result Altnaharra has gone down from 3rd to 9th, some 6 places, but Loch Glascarnoch went one better falling 7 places from 5th to 12th.

Redesdale Camp which had a minimum of -6.1C is the coldest so far this season. Both Sennybridge and Exeter had air frosts yesterday so all the stations in this group have now registered at least one air frost.

Loch Glascarnoch and Altnaharra got their on back yesterday having air frosts whilst their English counterparts were left in the warmth and were caught out with +9C minimums, piling on the unwanted points for them.

A handful of Scottish stations had a slight air frost yesterday so activating Icebox Britain, which caught a few of the English stations out, especially Exeter with a mild 13.3C minimum, piling the points on for them!

Tain Range sneaked in with a very small air frost yesterday thereby gaining ground on all its rivals. Now up to 7th from 10th.

Aviemore is the new leader, just the 2 places activating Icebox, Aviemore and Loch Glascarnoch. Aboyne the previous leader was caught out with a minimum of +7.9C therefore piling on the points!

Just the two locations Tain Range and L.Glascarnoch having an air frost therefore activating Icebox Britain. Not much movement in the accumulative tables, Tain Range up 2 places to 4th and Bournemouth/Hurn Airport go from 18th to bottom

I wonder how long it will take for all 20 places to have an air frost at the same time? The most we have seen was 13 places on the 6th November

After 2 days off without an air frost, Redesdale Camp gave me all the work to do today being the only one from this group with an air frost.
