NEW: Icebox Britain 2011-2012 New Format

Since the 20th there has only been 2 Icebox initiations on the 21st when Altnaharra was the only one with an air frost from this group and the 24th with a small handful. Here is the data.

Please note Spadeadam has not recorded for a week now and there are no reliable PWS nearby that i can use until it comes (if it comes) back on line. So bye bye Spadeadam.

Since the 24th there have been just the 2 days with air frosts the 27th and 29th details below.

Well as we leave 2011 This winter we still await our first double digit negative, with Loch Glascarnoch being the coldest to date with -9.4C, what a difference compared to 2010

Aboyne and Aviemore sneaked in an air frost both with -0.1C thus providing me with all this extra work lol

After 4 days off with no air frosts a handful of Scottish and English stations activated Icebox Britain. Good News is Spadeadam is back up running.

Aboyne is running away with the amount od air frosts, although Loch Glascarnoch which is top although hasnt had an air frost for the last 5 activations is managing to keep its top spot, just!

No air frosts on the 7th/8th and 9th but one activated Icebox on the 10th and two on the 11th.

Aboyne has now gone top!

Exeter of all places sitting at the bottom has had two air frosts on the bounce, and was the only place to have an air frost yesterday morning.

Since i started this thread on October 12th when Altnaharra had the first air frost not once has all 20 of these members had an air frost on the same day - until yesterday!

Another cold one yesterday morning, this time England and Wales had the coldest temps. Aboyne has now notched up 30 air frosts, 7 more than its nearest rivasl Loch Glascarnoch

Aboyne managed to equal Loch Glascarnoch`s -9.4C which is the coldest temperature in the UK so far this winter

West Freugh was the only station from this group not to record an air frost. Aboyne with -10.5C is the coldest recorded in the UK sofar this winter.

Aboyne is running away with this at the moment. Castlederg has gone down a couple of places and at long last Exeter has come off the bottom being replaced by West Freugh

Just 4 Icebox days in the last week, 2 of those were mere scrapes with Loch Glascarnoch being the only one with an air frost on the 22nd and Topcliffe on the 24th both with just -0.1C on both days

Only 4 places from this group escaped an air frost and Aboyne of all places currently winning with less points and the most amount of frosts took a day off and escaped one. Tulloch Bridge a notorious place for air frosts has not had one 4 days running!

A clean sweep with all 20 stations having an air frost - only the second time in 64 activations this season. Coldest night so far 1st/2nd with a group mean of -5.53C

Coldest one yet with a group mean of -7.46C and Sennybridge recorded the coldest UK temperature so far with -11.3C yesterday, coldest in Scotland was Braemar -10.9C in England Benson -10.8C and N.Ireland Katesbridge with -8.1C
