The Arctic ozone hole- news story/discussion

Hey Dave,
It was not un-expected. When we had a late Winter and the circulation took on, "John Mason's Dipole" character something unusual was likely. That the upper air column vortex would follow the cool La Nina pattern would seem to be a possibility. That the Northern Jet Stream seems to be so non-seasonal would seem to go along with the dramatic extremes in the weather the past 12 months.
As to linking the extreme weather and a strong Arctic vortex, I wonder that they could be related, I think it is unlikely. Though as to atmospheric heat flow, the extreme weather and large scale weather patterns may be linked. Part of the issue wrt the polar vortex would appear to be related to recent polar volcanic events these past 3 years, (Alaska, Iceland, Chile...).
I am curious what the follow up will be in regards to, Climate Change, CFC unauthorized generation, HFCs, Ocean Ice loss... Why not a change in the polar specific humidity...

In the near future the entire Canadian sector of the Arctic and Polar sky will no longer be monitored for ozone levels because the present recently elected government of Canada is anti science and anti environmentalism. This will take a large chunk out of the necessary monitoring,
