Well ad I'm currently in Sicily and enjoying some great food and vino, as an added bonus Etna now has a gas/ash column about 1km above the main crater. My hotel is about 18km from the summit and I have a great view. Got a text a few mintutes ago from the guide who took us around Etna today saying local volconologists are expecting a moderate eruption in the next 12-24hours so I am now on full volcano watch, and will drive a great view point about 2200metres up Etna as soon as she goes (if safe off course) I'll update as soon as there is news. Very excited

Apparently a crater has been de-gassing Chris; no sign of new tremor yet, but many commentators anticipate another paroxysm

Hey All,
Just a note that Mt. Etna is still steaming. A recent snow demonstrates the expanse of the outflow is very narrow; snow reaches within 10s of meters of the slope hugging, steamy, output. Even though the snow is partially hidden, it is visible down slope the steam plume, on the opposite side, as well. (Via cam3 of PMs link above.)
