It was an unusually hot start to October, with a new high temperature record for the month at this site. However, temperatures for the rest of the month were very up and down with some cool days and cold nights (although no air frosts ) mixed in with some warm days. The mean monthly temperature was 1.6 °C above average but due to the lack of consistency in temperature it ended only the 6th warmest in these site records.

It was mainly settled and dry with most of the month's rainfall of 31.0 mm arriving during some heavy spells of rain in an unsettled last week. Sunshine was well above average, about 125%, despite a rather dull spell from the 24th, the sunniest October recorded here since the installation of a solar radiation sensor in 2005.
