Yes,Palaiohora seems to have stopped recording on the 20th and today.Worst case scenario if it doesnt come back until the 29th you can take the rounded values from HNMS from the hourly updates. Some of the HNMS (either minimum or maximums) will appear but surely you will get the rounded values daily Ian.

My hope is to have either L'Ile-Rousse (Corsica) or Menton (Riviera) hitting at least 10.9°C and Cap Béar (Roussillon) hitting at least 9.9°C. According to the forecast, it's possible, isn't it? What do you think Ian?

Just worked it out Cap Bear would need to average 8.75C for the last 8 days or add 71C to its total to achieve 9.9C & Menton can easily do 10.9C all it needs is to average 6.0C for the nest 8 days of add 48C to its total, so at least 11C achievable for Menton i would of thought. L`ille Rousse needs only to average 5.5C or add 44C to its total to achieve 10.9C

...just wanted to add these forecasts for the remaining days of February, 'ça sent bon pour ces deux stations!' ('it smells good for these two stations!', literally)...

Winter temperatures adventure is almost over!

Windless clear anticyclonic days in Portugal usually mean very cold nights and warm days speccially in valleys and lowlands...many of the places in this ranking have had big temperature swings, but some other places have had brutal variations:

Alvega -6/+22
Alcacer do Sal -3/+21
Coruche -3/+20

The trend for the next 10 days points to a slow rise in temperatures, speccialy max temperatures, as night time inversions will still be powerfull.

I only hope Summer will bring us warmer nights..last one was truly abnormal, and this winter has been having abnormaly cold nights as well ( even in areas that are usually warmer).

Portugal has a really weird almost desertic climate

I know what you mean, stormy.

Actually, Iberia makes me think of southern California, western central Spain (kinda desertic) playing the role of inland southern California (truly desertic) and Portugal playing the role of coastal southern California.

Both of these two areas have a cold oceanic current that runs along their coasts, both of them have a big continental surface (less big, of course, for Iberia), and are at the same latitude.

Coastal Portugal is a bit like a "Morocco of the North" or a "California of Europe". ;) Fairly cool nights are quite common in the winter, and days are often warm.

Yep..it´s sort of it ..hehe
The only difference is that our coast has much warmer summers than coastal California...with July and August averages between 20ºC and 22ºC, in California only the southernmost tip is as warm.

Also the sea is warmer in Pt than in California...our coast have a similar climate to Los Angeles, San Diego, Perth, Morroco..but inland the climateis much harder, with huge daily variations, except in the higher terrain wich has no thermal inversion at night..

Hi Stormy maybe you could help Dave out with this thread
http://www.ukweather...290#entry790290

Which two places in Portugal that are on Ogimet that record sunshine figures are the sunniest in Portugal, I suggested Faro and Sines but you are better educated than me on Portugals weather :)

Today Girona area (northeastern corner of Iberia) had maximum temperatures around 22 and 23ºC, with "föhn" effect produced by northern winds. What's more, minimum temperatures last night, with calm wind, dropped until -5ºC, which means temperature amplitudes around 25-28ºC, like the deserts!
However, we have to take into account that drought has been very hard for the last three months, which must strengthen this effect. In Iberia this is one of the driest winters ever.

Warming up everywhere but with no real patter, if we look at the top 10 for yesterday it has various countries in it, the same can be said with the bottom 10

Most places warming up nicely as we come out of winter but the Malaga area of Spain are having a nice winter heatwave! Talking of which we know Rincon de la Victoria has run away with this, with the highest mean and highest mean max, but there is a battle going on for the highest mean minimum between Italy`s Pantelleria Island and Greec`s Karpathos Island, 3 days to go!
