My records go back to January 1996.

Since then the longest i have had to await my first air frost is January 1st 2003, In 2008/09 i had to wait until January 27th, however i had a solitary air frost at the end of October.

This season i have yet to record an air frost and the last one was on the 19th March 2011 - I make that 291 Days and counting - the longest i have ever gone without one!

I've had 4, 2 in Nov and 2 in Dec with last one on the 16th.

Only once have I had air frost free Nov & Dec. This was 2002, but there was a frost in October 02 on 24th. The next was on 5th Jan 2003.

Recording commenced Nov 1999

Four so far here too, Nov 7th and Dec 17th-19th. Lowest temp so far is a measly -1.3C on Dec 18th.

This begs the question, Could somewhere in the UK go either 12 months without an air frost or a whole winter without one? Excluding the Isles of Scilly where frosts are a raity, i mean even with the very cold December 2010, St Mary`s only recorded one air frost all winter and that was a poultry -0.6C.

Mark - you only have to wait 61 days for the whole year, me 75 days.

Certainly has happened in coastal margins of Ireland

Since 1990, Rosslare had no air frost in 2007, 2005, 2002 & 1992

Presumably the water froze in the Chicken Coup!

Although Hurn was still at -3C at 9am in fog, I only managed a minimum of 0.7C so still no air frost this winter. I would have thought tonight will see the coldest night of winter in the south. I would expect the usual culprits of Benson, Hurn, Yeovil to get down to -5/6/7C. I think I'll even sneak below 0C.

Certainly an air frost here overnight but not a harsh one: Trawscoed was at -0.4 at 0900 and it's a similar spot to here. A good ground frost with ice on cars first thing - the third one of the season.

Cheers - John
