A notably chilly -even cold- GFS 06Z op run I see.. certainly no spring warmth on the way it seems from GFs

Snowmelt permeates the ground more slowly though and so gets taken up by plants more easily (now that the sun is stronger and adding to evapo-transpiration) before it can get to aquifers, plus the possibility of sublimation from the surface.

If you don't believe me read Philip Eden's weekend column from the DT.

Heavy rain would be far more useful - if equally unpleasant!
