UKww Weather Warning for Snow
UKww Weather Watch for Snow

Issued Thur 2nd Feb 2012 1300GMT UPDATED Fri 3rd Feb 2012 2315GMT

Areas affected:
Weather Warning - Central and Eastern England
Weather Watch - NW England, English Midlands, Central Southern, Southeast
England

Valid from: 0600GMT Saturday 4th February 2012 to 1200GMT Sunday 5th February 2012

General evolution: An occluding front moving eastwards across the UK will mix with colder air over the central and eastern UK giving some snow in places as it does so. A discrete low may form around the triple point as it passes over SW England increasing the risk of snow to areas directly north of the triple point as it moves through the English Channel early on Sunday.

Forecast: Initially snow will fall over Wales, E Scotland and NW England. In lowland areas this will quickly turn to rain but in upland areas away from the coasts there is a risk of continued snow or rain falling onto freezing surfaces and creating an ice risk. In those upland areas additional snow accumulations of 3-6cm are expected. During Saturday afternoon/evening the precipitation band continues to move east it is more likely to remain as snow away from coastal areas, with accumulations of 4--8cm possible. Snow is likely to persist overnight in eastern areas especially around the Wash/Humber area where up to 10-13cm of snow is possible. To the south and west of the watch area rain falling onto frozen surfaces is a risk and ice is likely to be a problem overnight Saturday.

Please listen to local radio/television broadcasts for up to date information on travel conditions.

UKww will monitor this warning and update when necessary.
