Current alert level: Level 3 - Cold Weather Action in one or more regions of England
Issued at: Sunday 5 February 2012 at 10:01
There is a 100 % probability of severe cold weather and icy conditions between 1000 on Sunday and 1000 on Thursday in parts of England. This weather could increase the health risks to vulnerable patients and disrupt the delivery of services. Please refer to the national Cold Weather Plan and your Trust's emergency plan for appropriate preventive action.
A cold day today with areas of lying snow and icy conditions affecting many parts. Outbreaks of light rain spreading southeastwards later today and overnight, with some snow across some east/southeastern parts. This leading to a continuation of the icy conditions for many parts into Monday. A return to more settled but again colder conditions from Tuesday as easterly winds become established. At this stage the cold weather looks like it will last through to the end of the week with the temperature threshold expected to be exceeded across most parts of England.
