The French space agency CNES is modelling ocean currents via altimetry data from Cryosat, which detects sea level and wave heights as well as ice height. The MyOcean project is providing real-time products with registration, while the ESA have provided a free stunning animation in their recent press release:

Caution - you may lose hours watching that animation loop. Posted Image

Hey Baz,

Looks like regardless of long fetch breezes, creating chevrons on the sea surfaces and across large spans of the NH oceans, that coastal Columbia and Malaysia, in the Equatorial zone will see a lot of weather.

Thanks for the link, it is pretty amazing to see nearly symetrical patterns, almost like the ringing of a bell; yet knowing nearly nothing is symetrical or that linear (as to width of the noted currents).

(The real question is; Is the image an artifact of the model or are the lines central reference points for noting modeled paths and patterns?)
