Total of 15.1mm so far, mostly from Saturday's snow. For once that's above average! In fact, a whopping 148% of average (Feb is usually our driest month with ave just 40.6mm)

28.2 mm in the 1st 9 days of February 2012 at my place of work, which I estimate to be around 150% of average. It has been much less cold in Northern Ireland than Eastern England so far this month, probably near or just a little bit below normal. The on-line forecast for the rest of this month on the whole seems to be for close to average temperatures rather than being cold in the north and west at least, so as December and January were both somewhat warmer than average, so there seems a fair chance that the winter as a whole will be warmer than average in these areas at least. If I was living in Eastern or central England I would be concerned about potential water shortages this year as there has not been a really wet month so far over the autumn and winter period to recharge the reservoirs following the long drought from March 2011 onwards right through to November. It would be interesting to know what the annual totals relative to average were in the drier parts of England in 2011 compared with NW Scotland, etc.

Although these maps are useful for comparing regions, what I was really looking for were the values for individual stations; really what we need is an on-line version of the old Monthly Weather Report. It is I think really a shame that (although I concede that there is much useful statistical weather information on-line on the Met Office website as well as others such as those of Philip Eden and Roger Brugge's British Weather Diary)given all the public money received by the Met Office they don't produce an on-line equivalent of the old Monthly Weather Report, which did give a lot of detail. Am I the only one who thinks this?

I agree Ian.

Take a look at a sample monthly summary that the Swedish Met SMHI provide for free online:

OK you can go to the source page at http://www.smhi.se/k...imatdata-2.1240 and select your parameters

As indeed you can at The Canada Met (for example for BC):
