Cold first 9 days here with 7 out of 9 air frosts -only had one in January and none in December. Mean temp after 9 days just shy of +1.9C which is around 5 degrees below average to this date

Its the 4th consecutive winter that one of the winter months has recorded a sub-zero CET after the first 10 days

January 2009, January 2010, December 2010 and February 2012

A simple mean anomaly of -5.50 °C for the first 12 days of February - I think we can call that a cold spell...

1991 is the only February 1st - 12th period colder than that in my site records as 1986 didn't really bite until mid-month.

Saturday was the 13th consecutive day with maximum temperatures during the day staying below zero degrees Celsius (32 Fahrenheit) in Ukkel (Brussels). Sunday should add another day, but after that it's the end of the blistering cold.

The previous cold wave, in January 1997, continued for 12 days. This was also the case for January 1987.





coldest start to February since 1917
Taking into account the first 10 days of this month, Belgium is having the coldest start to February since 1917. Average maximum temperatures during the past ten days reached -2.6 degrees Celsius, compared to -2.7 in 1917.

Still 4C below my rolling 16 year average but it has increased by 1C since the 9th. Have included todays figures as i think the maximum of 9.5C today has been achieved and the temp is now falling, currently 8.8C

Mid Feb CET mean was +0.7C or -3.3C .. & it should get back to about -1.5C below average by the end of the month looking at forecast temps so pretty much as I predicted.

Looks like being a classic "month of two halves" here, simple mean for the month so far has climbed to 2.20 °C but still -2.90 °C below the average. Sunshine slightly above average with about 46 hours.

My mean has climbed to 4C but is still -2.5C below the norm until the 20th. Looks like this month will be the first below average month here since August last year.
