Really quite incredible, perhaps actually not credible, but nonetheless a feat to survive temps of -30C in a car for more than a few nights. Posted Image

Incredible tbh...bet that first cuppa & hot meal tasted good! so, Winter hibernation for humans is a distinct possibility then lol..

Mmmm bit weird this...he had the energy to speak, but not to walk the1KM to the main road? In fact why didn't he walk back to the road much earlier, it didn't say he was injured or anything...:blink:

find that hard to believe - really 2 months without food? Would he not have suffocated to death or poisoned himself with his own CO2?

I think this story is a load of *ollo**s

Since when did humans hibernate. You get cold, you get hypothermia, frost bite and you die in those temps.

If this story had been in the Daily Mail I feel the responses would be rather different. <_<

FWIW it seems the bbc and the Telegraph picked this up - not the Swedes themselves:

The news of the man who lived for two months without food in a snowed in car spread yesterday over the world. Both the BBC as the Telegraph and the German Die Welt reported on the event.

It was last Friday that a vacant police on snowmobiles encountered the man in the car on a forest road oplogad, one and a half kilometers from the E4 between Umeå and Savar.

The man says he has been in the car since 19 December and that he has neither eaten nor been outside the car since then. Police believe the man has survived by eating snow. He was well påpälsad and had a sleeping bag in the car. Enkligt a source, he also had access to some soft drinks, cigarettes and comic books.

The man was bad ratings included at the University Hospital in Umeå. Police said the Svenska Dagbladet that they dropped the case because there is no suspicion of crime.

According to managers at the University Hospital are feeling the man given the circumstances and is admitted to a ward.

The man seems to have been healthy and lived a normal life, where he devoted himself to real estate transactions, but last year he ended up in financial difficulty.

- The whole situation was well overpowering for him. He just took off. The rumor was being dragged to Norrland, and that was true of course, says the man's neighbor to the Svenska Dagbladet.

Why the man stopped at the solitary turning point in the middle of the woods is a mystery to police.

- We do not know why he tried to leave, says Ebbe Nyberg, who is the officer in Västerbotten police.

He may not have eaten the snow directly, but melted it first - the meaning could easily be changed in translation and reporting. It's also possible that he's not telling the truth.

Point being that just 0.6m away from the road in the quiet you would hear occasional traffic on the road and know you were quite close to it. So why didnt he at least leave a sign or something there.. even if he couldnt stay there ?

I think he lost his house as a result of the rent issues, was bunking up in his car each night .. but then got snowed in one day and got disorientated but maybe couldnt didnt have other options .. though Sweden has a pretty good social welfare system..
