Here it was a little milder and rather drier than normal but fairly unexceptional overall. December's rainfall surpus was nerfed by a dry January and February, while a cold 1st half of February had little effect on the otherwise mild season.

Here are some stats from my site for the Winter 11/12.I hope their of interest.


SUMMERY
The only snow to lie was in December with six days with more than 50% snowcover 5th,10th,and 16th-19th(inc)this was all slight not exceeding 5cm.It was a dry winter,the whole of the season was drier than both July and August 2011.
The first half of the winter was very windy at times with severe gales on December 13th and December 28th,but the major storm waited till the morning of January 3rd which cause great damage through Central Scotland,I lost a tree and my electric was off for three days.A gust of 102mph was recorded on Blackford Hill Edinburgh.
Thereafter the winter was a whole lot quiter and quite mild except for some mainly minor snaps especially the first 10 days of February.
Christmas Day and Boxing Day were very mild albeit a bit windy and these unusually mild festive temperatures remained unexceeded until February 28th so Christmas Day was very nearly the warmest day of the winter.
