Sunspots 7th March 2012

As indicated in some of the threads there is quite an active sun at the moment. Sun finally came out today so here is a shot of the sunspot that's causing all the news.

300mm (uncropped). Canon EF 70-300mm USM IS lens - Canon 400D. Tripod with mirror lock-up and remote shutter.

Edit: Oh yes, Baader film used!

1/1250th, F5.6, ISO 100

Just wish I could afford a decent lens to even get a chance of that kind of result.

That's well neat. Serious sunspot complex on the RHS.

Cheers Glyn. The 70 - 300 isn't a really expensive lens.

It was you who advised to put the mirror lock on (an old moon thread). Mind you, at those speeds its perhaps not as important as at night. It was on the tripod (IS off of course) and I bought a really cheap wired shutter release which I use for timelapse.

Quite pleased with it.
