Recent Marches have had a cool and sometimes frosty first decameron here but this has been an above average start to the month, with no air frosts as yet. Sunshine hours are a little down on the normal, around 26 hours or 80% ish.

Well after the 2nd decarum/tercile my mean has dropped by 0.3C but is still 0.8C above average, the reason for the drop over the last 10 days is down to the mean minimum with some colder nights due to fog and a couple of frosts, the mean maximum has actually increased by 0.2C

Hi Dave, I see how you have come up with +1.8C but you need to divide the 3.6C by 3 and not 2, which gives the anomaly to +1.2C. Hadley says on its page however the anomaly to the 20th March is +1.14C. My own anomaly to the 20th March for St Germans is +0.88C

  • Average so far this year
    • Average CET to February: 4.63
    • Normal CET to February: 3.78
    • Anomaly to February: 0.85
    • Provisional CET anomaly (up to 20th March): 1.14

Running at 1.1C above average and looks like being the warmest March since at least March 2003 and we all know what the summer was like that year!! My warmest ever March with a mean of 9.46C in 1997 with 6 days left looks safe even with this warm weather forecasted for the rest of the month

As at the 26th my site simple mean for March is 8.93 °C, the 4th warmest in my records. The bad news is that all those warmer Marches were followed by mediocre summers

Just looked into my warmest Marches and the following summer

1997 warmest March followed by a warm summer especially August 1997 CET Jun 14.01C/Jul 16.75C/Aug 19.02C

1998 2nd warmest March followed by a cool summer 14.03C/15.26C/15.81C

2003 3rd warmest March followed by a warm summer 15.97C/17.43C/18.48C

Figures are from Philip Edens adaption of the Manley CET method

Ended up being my 2nd warmest March on record. My warmest was in 1997 and it did come close. Mean maximum for March is a new record. My mean temp was + 1.4C above my rolling 16 year average, and +2.5C above nearby Plymouths 1961-1990 average.

My previous daily maximum for March was 17.6C this was beaten 5 times between 24th and 29th inclusive. Strangely my mean minimums were close to average, due to clear skies and the rural location.
